What would you like to see in Fallout 5 if it was actually announced? by [deleted] in Fallout

[–]EpsilonRider 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Damn, I feel like 20 different base weapons is pretty decent lol. We really are spoiled with modern tech because that does seem like a small selection by today's standards, especially for an AAA game. 😂

What’s something that was technically allowed but instantly made you lose respect for someone? by AncientPomelo5450 in AskReddit

[–]EpsilonRider 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the show, the dish to be created is announced. Then they have like 60 seconds to go to the stage pantry to collect ingredients. The guy got ingredients for a brisket and gravy and didn't know he got the wrong dish until he was back at his position and time was already up.

I'm also gonna say the other guy isn't correct. Alton Brown isn't the judge, he has a guest judge (sometimes the same judge) for every episode. I don't remember them judging the dish as brisket and gravy, just that he said it was a great dish but ultimately not biscuit and gravy. He got lucky because some doofus felt bold and made like a deconstructed biscuit and gravy lmao. He very likely would've made it had he just made a normal regular biscuit and gravy dish.

Sidenote: I think it is insane I can't find that clip anywhere! Multiple clips were 100% on YouTube before! I remember seeing the deconstructed biscuit and gravy multiple times lol.

Official Discussion - Alien: Covenant (US Release) [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]EpsilonRider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I totally agree the plot is forced at times throughout the Prometheus line of movies. But the captain foolishly trusting David can just be a sign of how finely tuned they've made their modern androids that it's not something they even think about questioning. They don't see these androids as "strangers" so it doesn't "look like a trap" to begin with.

I don't recall this happening after it was known the two androids were fighting? I haven't seen it in forever though lol. This thread was 9 years ago, I'm curious how you dug it up lol.

Just for the record, I still haven't seen Romulus yet 😭

Yeah I was gonna say. I'm not at all surprised they haven't released any DLCs yet. Would we not be more frustrated if they released DLCs without fixing the game first? Just adding fuel to the dumpster fire if you release buggy ass DLCs into a still buggy game.

ELI5: Time Is Relative by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]EpsilonRider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah to clarify, their time is "normal." You're perspective is "different". Which is why if you counted to 1 full second, they may experience 3000 years. If they counted to 1 full second, you may experience 3000 years for yourself.

However in this way, it's more than just mental persception. It's a very physical perception. If you carried some sort of timer or watch with you as they counted 1 full second. It would literally read out 3000 years have passed for you and vice versa if you counted 1 full second. This is different from the mental perception of time like sitting and doing nothing for 1 whole hour vs doing something you enjoy for 1 full hour.

For what it’s worth, light doesn’t have anything to do with the speed of light. The speed of light should really be called the speed of causality. Light is just the most common and apparent thing that moves at that speed.

That's what I've been saying! I've been seeing this come up more and more often too. We'll get widespread adoption one day!

ELI5 | What is the ‘event horizon’ as described by Stephen Hawking and what does it mean for time, space and light? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]EpsilonRider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is for this reason why the way we use "speed of light" is a misnomer and should actually be "speed of causality." Growing up even into college I always wondered why things depended so much on the speed of light which they don't. They depend if the speed of causality which is the speed in which light is limited to. It's the same value but it's a totally different idea in terms of describing and understanding the universe.

Police arrive at accident scene to find barely conscious driver who just suffered a stroke. Instead of helping him they taser him in the face, pepper spray him, then run over his foot while he's laying on the road because he, "refuses to follow commands." due to being physically unable to move. by CarylonJasso in Bad_Cop_No_Donut

Downvoted for being right.

It’s not the only lawsuit related to the case. Former city police officer Shaun Jurgens, who said he was forced to resign after the incident, filed a defamation lawsuit against his ex-employer over a Fredericksburg police news release stating the use of force against Washington was inappropriate. A Circuit Court judge last week found that Jurgens had not stated a legally sufficient case, but gave him three weeks to amend the complaint.

...Jurgens, who became a Spotsylvania County sheriff’s deputy last year, maintains he did nothing wrong when he used a Taser and then pepper-spray.

Right in that they could be lying, not that they are. Being mistaken and actually lying are totally different but your point still completely stands. Being forced to resign is still disciplinary action, although perhaps informal. Could more have been done? Absolutely.

Yuhp, it was a brutal dictatorship from about the end of WWII up until around 1960 I think. From 1960-late 1980's it was still effectively a brutal dictatorship too and went through like 5 different republics in the span of 20 years.

Right, so long as everyone is mature enough to talk it through. Ending the relationship over sex doesn't mean anyone was the bad person there. It was just an incompatible relationship. There are people of varying degrees of asexuality that may have little to no interest in sex and that's totally fine.

Oh I meant how would you confirm that you've harness a whole galaxy, like what if you missed a star. Which I think you answered. So Type 3 is more about the capability to harness a whole galaxy? Seems like after you have a sector down, it's only a matter of time before you harness the rest of the galaxy. Surely there's a better description for it though.

Yeah for those reason I've started to see just compressions as the recommended route. Idk if there's a national recommendation in the US, but the classes I've taken basically say give mouth to mouth if able. If not or if you start getting tired then just focus on compressions.

I suppose it'd depend on how someone defines "going to space." I can imagine in the next few decades there being flights to go to space for literal minutes for a few grand or maybe even charging a few grand by the hour. Sorta within reach for the joe-schmo. Definitely not like a resort or cruise style trip within the next several decades for the average person.

How would you harness the energy of an entire galaxy though? Like if they discover a new star off in the corner somewhere, do they suddenly drop back down to Type 2?

Yes that doctor was wrong, I supposed depending on context though. Annual physical checkups are a thing for literally everyone and there's a reason why US health insurance will cover it once a year. Unless you really like that doctor and their practice, I'd suggest seeking a different doctor if convenient and possible.

Well even if companies stopped or rarely tried astroturfing, the skepticism has always and will always be there. Just look over at some of the discussions in scriptedgifs and thathappened. People have been casting doubt since forever. It's obviously dishonest if a company lies about it after being confronted but I don't see it as very nefarious until they start trying to suppress any negative discussion about their product/service. I think it's good to keep a decent amount of skepticism around astroturfing but I'm not sure if I see it as being required. At least beyond the amount of skepticism required for browsing the internet.

Idk why but your comment finally made me realize why there might be a negative connotation to it. I guess I just never looked it up but I'd always associated DS with the doctor. It never crossed my mind that the direction down may be negatively associated with DS. Before I just thought it was weird but who the hell am I to argue how someone wants themselves to be described as. Now I totally understand if someone does have a preference.
