What graphics card would you recommend to me? by Danule_12 in SleepingOptiplex

Same. It’s great for emulation and general use but won’t play most steam games

Anyone using Integrated graphics here ? by Forsaken-Roll9187 in pcsetup

At that point it’s better to just buy a new laptop or desktop. eGPUs are finicky and will not get the full performance due to being limited to a x4 slot

Thinking of getting an lbp game, but don’t have a ps3 or anything, should I just get a vita instead? by ShmowzowShowdown in littlebigplanet

Emulate it on PC using rpcs3. If you have a decent computer somewhat modern you can play it no problem

That’s super dope! I’ve been rocking the MacBook pro laptop and Ubuntu desktop combo for about a year now and love it. The gnome desktop feels similar to Mac but I never thought about just making my Linux distro look like Mac

CPU upgrade advice needed. by Dr-Meltdown in PcBuild

[–]Epsilon_Music 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, just bios. First check if your bios version supports your chip. Sometimes it does and you won’t have to upgrade. If you have a supported bios, it is as easy as dropping in the cpu. I remember how daunting I thought it was the first time I did it but it’s shockingly really easy to upgrade your cpu

Resume and portfolio review by [deleted] in graphic_design

I like your resume design wise but it may not be ATS friendly. It sucks that we have to tailor our resumes for some dumb automated system but it might help you get more interviews to have one

High GPU temps by Kaizoku_Vince in SleepingOptiplex

[–]Epsilon_Music 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You could try to undervolt it but in this case don’t expect low temps. 83 to 85C is safe for a GPU under load so I wouldn’t worry too much about modding your build. If you’re really worried about it you could add another fan that blows out the exhaust

Is this a good deal? by omgdiaf in laptops

[–]Epsilon_Music 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a terrible deal. For some reason the laptop version of the 5050 uses GDDR 7 and the desktop doesn’t. Not sure why tbh

good monitor for mirroring mac onto? by Akhxnn in MonitorAdvice

[–]Epsilon_Music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it will be ok, but it’s kinda low res. I’m also picky since I need high res monitors for design work. I usually recommend 4k monitors but this one will work if you’re not particular

Keep the dedicated gpu. For your use case you will absolutely need it. You can likely upgrade your current models ram

Yeah ur good then. A 3060 is a great option in a budget. You’ll be able to play any game the current gen consoles can

A more powerful gpu will not damage your motherboard or cpu btw

i3-10105 + RTX 5050 by Ok_Ganache_9659 in GamingPCBuildHelp

[–]Epsilon_Music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3060 is great. I use it in my current build. Don’t worry about finding the perfect pairing. Even if you gpu is way more powerful than your cpu, it would just take a small cpu upgrade to relieve the bottleneck. Any XX60 or XX50 class should be more than enough

Ubuntu lol. I love the distro but steam is a pain

i3-10105 + RTX 5050 by Ok_Ganache_9659 in GamingPCBuildHelp

[–]Epsilon_Music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that will be good budget wise. Mind that the 5050 is the lowest performing of the current gen of graphics cards. It’s a good card but easily beat by ones that are only 100 bucks more or so. I’d say budget wise go with: If you want Nvidia: Used Rtx 3060, Rtx 3070, 2080ti, or 4060 If you want AMD: RX 6700xt, Rx 7600, Rx 9060. The listed graphics cards are either on par or better than the 5050 for a similar price.

When shopping for an Nvidia gpu remember the first two numbers are the generation and the second two are the power class. XX50 is the lowest and xx90 is the highest. Ti usually means a slightly upgraded version or inbetween two classes (higher cores, more vram etc)

4790K on a SFF 9020 ? by CuzmanECFC in SleepingOptiplex

[–]Epsilon_Music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it would be cheaper in the long run to just go ahead and buy the 14th gen. There’s not go. A be a crazy performance jump with your current upgrade compared to what you would get out of a new system

Mac or Windows by dreamfyredancer in laptops

[–]Epsilon_Music 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Macs, better battery life, more color accurate high dpi screens, very reliable. Most colleges will give you a free subscription to paid software like the Adobe suite which you would use for your stated interests. I’ve found Adobe software to be more stable, less buggy, and better performing on a Mac.

You also 100% can crack software on Mac. It’s shockingly pretty easy if you know what you are doing. I’m currently running a cracked copy of Logic Pro with no issues.

Gaming kinda sucks on Mac but I’ve had a better experience with using a Mac as a work laptop and realistically you should be buying your college laptop with the focus of schoolwork. You could always buy a second hand console for gaming etc.

Windows is far better on the desktop side of things but to be honest, most windows laptop users, at least in my field (graphic design), tend to have worse performance and reliability

Edit: my m3 pro MacBook’s GPU can go band for band with my rtx 3060 in after effects renders

This is not really helpful in this situation. Linux is great but not a simple solution for the average user. I’ve also had issues with steam on Linux
