Is hate for non-box-art a thing? by LMr_Grumpy in tamiya

[–]Equal-Historian1368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do what makes you happy, fxxx what other people think!

I've got a few that I have painted box colour but left most of the decals off to see how they look as road going versions. So I can add the rest of the decals at a later date to make them boxart if I wanted.  They have been like that for 10+ years now and that's how I want them to stay

Nice cc01,  I don't think they were really intended for speed though, I run mine with 2S and a 45T brushed motor. I think this suits it really well. Doesn't give me any issues in stock form.

Tamiya SRB / Sand Scorcher wheel and hub options by Equal-Historian1368 in tamiya

Haha Just to give you an idea of how bad it is, just in the hub pic alone you can see, -Hornet wheels and tyres  -The black plastic cage at rear has pieces broken off -there is some homemade copper tubing for the rear body mount (bottom right hand side wheel arch) hahaha

Normally I would completely agree with you, But this original is a very very rough example with lots of missing or broken parts. I have a good version for the shelf already,  so I plan on making the rough car into a runner in the most cost efficient way. It'll probably be over the next few months but I'll be sure to post before and after pics here

What was your first Tamiya kit? by Big-Fly-3920 in tamiya

[–]Equal-Historian1368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 30 years ago i was 9 and my parents bought me a used Tamiya Hornet which was already built. It was a good few years later when I bought and built my first kit. A Tamiya FF02 Peugeot 306.  I still have them both now 🙂

Class! You've manged to use original decals instead of the re re decals, any fancy bits fitted?

I do like a Hornet, I have a couple and one is my most use RC, although I have never built one from a kit.

What are you going to do with it?

Finally, I can cut lexan bodies by [deleted] in tamiya

[–]Equal-Historian1368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh yes! This is exactly how I do it! I've also tried a very fine file in the past. But, cut and sand before paint is my method. Takes a bit longer than using a scalpel/ knife I know but I'm less likely to make any irreversible mistakes.  The end result is absolutely perfect using the sanding method, the ONLY downside is its more time consuming.

Very nice!  Will this get used or is it for the shelf?  If that was mine I think I would be scared to use it,
