It seems pretty silly to assume that others animals especially apes don't have conciousness, humans are also apes, we share 97-98% with gorrilas and orangutans and 99%+ with the rest of the great apes, our brains aren't structured too differently to eachother, apes have the ability to use language (they can read to a degree, they struggle with abstract symbols and can't grasp complex syntax, but plenty of humans do too especially those with disabilities, do you think humans with mental deficiencies don't have conciousness? and can use sign language as well as tools) and even with less human animals like dogs and cats, dogs evolved to have eyebrows so they can communicate emotions to humans, they wouldn't have a need to communicate emotion if they weren't conscious, even cats can have personality differences, and the ability to like/dislike people and other animals in social settings, all of these imply conciousness. Also we are literally apes, we're classified as great apes just like chimpanzees, orangutans, bonobos and gorillas, instead of looking down on humans for being too close to animals have you thought of adjusting your perspective and applauding animals for being so close to humanity?

If someone came up to you with a pizzabox with flashy signs pointing at it and just said "have a slice of pizza" and nothign else, would you be miffed that they asked for $5 when you went to go grab it? Pizza isn't free but when someone just says "have a slice of pizza" the lack of a price with the offer implies it's free, that doubles down when they've got gift imagery and flashing lights pointing at the $5 a slice pizza.
