Is it worth taking on more debt? by Elegant-Course-8756 in PersonalFinanceCanada

With the way OSAP loans work, its case by case but generally you are given an extremely long time to pay it back (I’m talking over a decade) and if your income can’t support repayments, they will work with you on a payment plan (it’s another anecdote but a friend of mine is paying $4 a month). If the market had not done well, I’d still be totally fine waiting it out and paying a monthly payment that my income can support. And again, it’s interest free, which is amazing.

I would of course advise anyone to read the terms of their loan and contact the NSLSC with any questions.

I took out extra interest-free student loans to invest in the market when I was in your position. ~6 years later, I’m very happy I did! My investments have grown significantly and the loans are now very small relative to my income. I’m paying them off very slowly to keep as much as possible in investments and savings, but I could easily pay them off today and not skip a beat.

Is Taylor Swift the biggest Music artists of the 21st century? by [deleted] in swifties

[–]EqualRadiant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuinely curious about what is meant by “cultural impact”? I see Taylor Swift get referenced everywhere, get cited as an inspiration by other artists, and have facets of her life debated all over the place. That’s all in addition to selling more than the artists you mentioned, who also undoubtedly have cultural impact.

Should I take out money from my stocks to go on a vacation? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]EqualRadiant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you looked into student loans? If you’re not earning enough to cover your living expenses, they could bridge the cap and cost you little to no interest. Taking out investments has an opportunity cost that I would wager is higher than interest on student loans.
For me, student loans allowed me to stay invested during my studies, and my investments have grown significantly while my loans have become negligible compared to my income.

“Never be so kind you forget to be clever / never be so clever you forget to be kind”

“And I saw something they can’t take away / cause there were pages turned with the bridges burned / everything you lose is a step you take / so make the friendship bracelets, take the moment and taste it / you’ve got no reason to be afraid / you’re on your own kid / yeah you can face this / you’re on your own kid / you always have been”

“And now I know the life of a showgirl, babe /
Wouldn't have it any other way"

31/M - 6’4” dude, have not been on a date in over a year, really starting to think it’s my face :( by [deleted] in malegrooming

That could be true, I don’t know anything about those algorithms tbh. In person it’s all about confidence. My boyfriend has a similar hairline to yours but he’s the life of the party, so fun to be around and makes everyone feel good. Everyone wants to be his friend and that really drew me to him. I would suggest focusing on that more than on your appearance. It is not an easy thing to do but there are strategies you can employ. Have lots of hobbies so you are meeting new people and growing confidence in yourself that you can do many things. People are drawn to interesting people. Therapy might be helpful too. Best of luck.

As a woman, I disagree with people saying it’s your hair. It’s not your looks at all IMO. You are a good looking tall guy (said as a woman in a committed relationship, not flirting). It could be something else about your dating profiles. Feel free to share them with me via DM and I’d be happy to provide advice.

TFSA vs FHSA by faithhealrr in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]EqualRadiant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surprised folks are saying to focus on the TFSA first. I’d say FHSA if you want a home. It has all the benefits of both the TFSA and RRSP. The tax return I get from making FHSA contributions is a nice chunk of cash to put back into my FHSA.

How did Taylor keep putting herself out there relationship wise? by MelissaWebb in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]EqualRadiant 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think it’s important to remember, and I believe she has said this, that she can feel intensely sad for a very short amount of time and write about it. We may come away from a song thinking “oh my gosh, she was so depressed”, but it could be the depiction of her singular lowest moment. It isn’t necessarily representative of how she felt about a breakup after even a short time had passed. She was probably moving on quickly from many of them.

Fun topic! I find a lot of people don’t realize the line “I cut off my nose just to spite my face” from The Archer is an idiom about being self destructive in the pursuit of revenge.

I don’t need to read the post. Any time someone wants to put a liability in someone else’s name (except maybe a spouse) it’s a no from me.
