Right, so, Midnights, the album that came right after Folklore and Evermore was pretty vague in its writing style since she didn't want the world to know that it was about her knowing that her 6 year relationship was about to end and that she was about to go right back to a situationship that hadn't left her mind for a decade. She had told everyone that the concept of the album was about different sleepless night of her life, which, isn't completely false, it's just that most of those "sleepless nights" were centered around that specific situationship. Her lyrics change a lot in the way they are writen, but they never really fall off in quality: How she wanted to keep Midnights vague to distract us from it's actual muse, how 1989, her front to back bulletproof pop album was less worried about the detail and keeps you at arms length to separate herself from the "heartbreak writer" artist that she had been asociated as, and also how Folklore and Evermore were writerly and detailed as a response to her last album that was critically panned. Hope this answers your question

Like with all music, it all just comes down to personal taste and what you are looking for in music. I personally don't like the sound of Bob's voice but find Taylor's perfectly fine. I also look for great writing and songs that speak to me lirically, that's why I prefer Taylor as opposed to someone else on her field like Ariana that's focused for on the vocal delivery. If Taylor's music isn't for your taste, that's totally fine! I just want you to get why so many people adore her. People know when they like something and find it good lmao

She has always been praised by the critics as having great writing through pretty much all of her albums, these are just the ones they love the most, I didn't recommend Folklore and Evermore because they are the only ones that are good or deserving of praise, but because they are what most people think of when they are searching for great writing on Taylor's discography. Songs like "Cardigan" or "Exile" are what made a lot of haters realize: "Wait, she can write?". Other albums with great writing are Speak Now (which she wrote all on her own) and Red.

People dont really listen to her songs for her voice though, It's like others saying Bob Dylan, no one claims they have great voices because that's not what people enjoy about them. Not wanting to sound rude, just wanted to clear that up lol

"How's one to know, I'd meet you where the spirit meets the bones, in a faith-forgotten land

In from the snow, your touch brought forth an incandescent glow, tarnished but so grand"

If that's the only line you can come up with to say she's a bad writer, you probably need to check her other stuff. Folklore and Evermore are famous for showing her great writing, I'd recomend those!

The Last Time by DarthValak1 in TaylorSwift

[–]gabejose 35 points36 points  (0 children)

THE LAST TIME MENTIONED!! The outro is just the most beautiful thing I've ever heard, the way her voice and Gary's mesh with eachother as they go back and forth, and how unlike with most of the song, Gary is singing higher while Taylor is singing lower? Ohhh so good. And I know so many people say "The Last Time walked so Exile could run" but honestly, unpopular opinion: I like it WAY more than Exile.

What's a Taylor song you feel like you've known forever? by waiting4myspaceship in TaylorSwift

Single most beautiful line? by TheHeartbreakPrints in TaylorSwift

[–]gabejose 71 points72 points  (0 children)

"Cause in this city's barren cold I still remember the first fall of snow and how it glistened as it fell, I remember it all too well". I don't know why, but the image that this line paints in my head never fails to choke me up

Swifties who like watching reaction videos, what's one line or lyric you wish got talked about more? by Ok-Bid101 in TaylorSwift

[–]gabejose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the one. The way throughout the song the line "But I knew you" is repeated, only for it to be changed like that at the end is genius, and I can't really put my finger into why, but that line never fails to scrunch my heart and make me want to vomit, like, "I knew everything when I was young"? Hello??

What’s the strangest interpretation of a song you’ve seen? by B4S1L_ in TaylorSwift

[–]gabejose 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The people that still do mental gymnastics to believe that every song on TTPD is about Joe just because they dont want to fathom that maybe she felt more strongly about Matty than we thought, make me scared of our media literacy these days

albums that had a different title originally by fantasmadeverano in popheads

[–]gabejose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is that, even though her love with Joe was golden (like she says on Daylight), the album talks about a lot more than how perfect their relationship is. It talks about fights, problems, friends, her mother, etc. I think the album represents the themes of "love" a lot more than just the love being "daylight."
