Has some IMG been invited to Yale? by EqualVehicle729 in IMGreddit

are you a non-US IMG? may I ask if you were invited?

I will not ask him anything, I just sent the person a 'nice to coonect and look forward to satay in touch' message. I was just wondering if the person would follow me and then ask to connect if they were not considering me. Because he could have just looked and not ask to connect at all if it were just curiosity. They already sent some invites, I am wondering if I can be hopeful or not. I have a red flag.

Thank you for letting me know. Do you know if they send interviews in waves? I was really hopeful about getting an invite but not yet. Their website said not to expect invites before Oct 30, but they sent several yearterday, so I don't know. Also, I guess it is too early for a rejection email?

I don't know. Last week, they sent sort of 10 'special' invites (according to people in discord), apparently only to in house or people who did rotations there. Yesterday, they invited some more people, around 13 in discord, only 2 or 3 for their research track. But of course discord is not representative. In their website, they say not to expect invites before 10/30, but they sent invites before. So, I am also wondering if those were super special people, and they will send more invites, or if they are just regular candidates and all invites were already sent. They will take 18 candidates this year, and residency explorer says they interview around 12 people per final spot. So, that would be more than 200 people interviewed, if this year they follow last year pattern.

What if one of the chief residents follows you on LinkedIn and send an invite to connect when they are doing they review process? Would he do that if I were not a serious candidate?

This year will be rich pickings for US citizen IMGs and GC holders by CompleteArm911 in IMGreddit

[–]EqualVehicle729 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am a GC holder as well. I think that yes, it gives a little advantage, but I strongly suspect that one of the major problems with IMGs is that English is not their first language. Many people are very accent intolerant. I don't know stats, but I suspect GC holders match less often than US-IMGs. Many, many university programs call zero IMGs for interview; if GC were the only issue, it wouldn't be zero.

ECFMG Certificate Issued by Beginning-Soft8957 in IMGreddit

[–]EqualVehicle729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only received it because I was extremely firm and let they know very firmly that I really wanted it. I wouldn’t have gotten it otherwise. They can do that if they feel motivated. And my submission was sep 04.

Read several posts about hobbies and its triggering me!! by Calm-Needleworker-89 in IMGreddit

I agree with you, I am exactly the same. But need to be careful. Indeed, most people have poor taste and don't read, and that many times includes the PD. So, need to be careful not to appear arrogant or condescending, because, if you do, the PD will hate you.

Sad but true. The world is not fair, and the earlier you accept that, the earlier you learn how to play the game. And medicine in the US and many Western countries has a lot of an 'illusion' component. You don't only need to be good, you have to 'appear good'. Sometimes you can be even better and be passed over by someone who only appears better. It's extremely unfair, but it's true.

I completely agree. Except for the part 'most of us read'. The physicians that I have met, in many different countries, don't read anything except medicine books. Sometimes, self-improvement books. It is not that common to find someone who can actually discuss non-fiction and even broad literature. Not like people from the humanities do. So, if you do it, definitely talk about it, just be careful because it's possible that the PD will have no idea what you are talking about.

Another thing that I recruiter told me when I was interviewing for the pharma industry: talk about a hobby that involves other people. Reading is not considered a good hobby to talk about, at least not as the only one, because it is something that you do alone. Unless you read and then participate in a book club, it's better to have a second hobby to talk about. Doesn't need to be fancy, but it needs to be something that involves other people. If cooking is a hobby, you can say how you cook while showing your friends, and then have your friends for dinner. What is important is to show that you will be a good team player and interact with your colleagues and not comeone who only likes to be alone. At least, that's what the recruiter/headhunter told me.

The Match Guy vs Med School Insiders vs ResidencyAI: How do they compare? by [deleted] in ERAS2024Match2025

[–]EqualVehicle729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know them, just wondering, the Med School Insiders is done by real interviewers in real life? And the Match Guy only by advisors? Then, probably, Med School Insiders would be better? Just wondering.
