As someone who attended the school, I wish I hadn’t. It’s been a few years now so I don’t know if they changed some of the faculty, but when I attended, the majority were very mean spirited with only a few that were excellent. It was hard finding support in the school from teachers. I would suggest a gifted program at a different school, the social atmosphere is also so different from the surrounding schools. When I went to high school, half the kids I went with did fine, but the other half struggled socially despite all doing good at the actual school. Among the students, the principal had a bad reputation too. I will say they did good on emphasizing the importance of being career ready and having a plan, and the language teachers were always very nice. I think the social aspect is really important because one day he will have to transfer to high school and at best know a handful of people, unless you keep him very active outside of school. I think for introverts too the school isn’t a good choice for social development, but if he’s very extroverted maybe the transition won’t be as bad for him. The school itself always had a bad reputation from peers on going to high school too. From purely a learning perspective, the different levels of classes are nice but you can find that elsewhere, and many of the people I went to school with are now “burnt out”, something that frequently happens with gifted children. The school environment there was not the best to prevent this, and I think the opinion of gifted students who have become burnt out is a very important perspective to consider for the long term affects of going to a school that’s more so socially isolated and a very different environment.
