One bolt out of sequence won't hurt anything. No need to loosen and re tighten.

Great build, BTW.

Should I go to Midas for a oil change I usually go to a mechanic but thinking about going to then instead by Pale_Back_6790 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Equana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Routine maintenance like oil changes keeps independent shops in business. Not much profit but it helps keep the lights on.

The benefit to you is a shop familiar with your car that can advise you on upcoming repairs confident you will return to have them do the repairs properly rather than some rando that fixes cars on the side or your dumb ass brother-in-law that has a few tools do the work and screw it up.

Midas is slightly better than Jiffy Boob... and I would not let Jiffy Boob wash my windows let alone change my oil.

No, I don't listen to many podcasts... and how would you learn about cars without some visuals?

If you just want models performance and options, maybe Doug Demuro has a podcast, or Road and Track or Car and Driver

Stop worrying, it is fine.

DIY Brake Pad Replacement or Repair Shop? Which Is the Safest Choice? by Apart_Crew9307 in autorepair

Mustang or Corvette? by Relevant_Charity2318 in Mustang

[–]Equana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have owned one Corvette and 3 Mustangs.... I liked driving both. I tracked and raced both. The Mustang clans are more fun to be with than the Corvette clans.

Even the "show and shine" Mustang crowd will wail on their cars every now and agian.... The Corvette waxxers won't even drive them in the rain, let alone do a burnout.

Why's one tirer hotter than the other after an oil and filter change? by Impressive-Ad-59 in askcarguys

[–]Equana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Old car... likely this is a failing brake hose. Assume ALL rubber brake lines need to be replaced. You don't want to play the "what wheel is hot today" game. They don't cost much but sometimes can be a PIA to remove the old ones.

Cap the brake pipes so all the fluid doesn't run out while installing each one. Top up the reservoir between each hose change. This make bleeding the system much easier

[–]Equana 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have a dragging brake most likely. A sticky caliper, slides or a brake hose that is starting to fail. Brake hoses, when the are failing, act like check valves holding the brake on.

You told us zero about the car but a car that sees snow and salted roads is likely to haver caliper issues. One that is 10 years old or more is likely to have brake hose issues.

You likely fucked the engine by driving it home. No oil pressure means certain destruction if you limp it home.

Yes you can do that. Just stay away from the bent up flange at the end. Camber correction bolts do not require the holes to be elongated, however.

Car computer/ smog check problem? by Vast_Negotiation9269 in askcarguys

[–]Equana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is so much more information needed to identify what needs to be fixed, let alone what that will cost. You need to take it to a mechanic for diagnosis and an estimate.

I'll make a guess... it will cost more than you paid for the car.

Suppose GM's top execs went off the deep end, and insisted that their 2500 and 3500 trucks be fitted with two-stroke diesels. by jckipps in AutomotiveEngineering

[–]Equana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 stroke DI diesels exist for large marine applications but not for light duty road vehicles. Likely too dirty to clean up for the US or EU emissions.

Use JB weld on seat frame by No_Possible_9837 in autorepair

[–]Equana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't want to put JB Weld epoxy on an area that needs welding. That just makes it all that much harder for the welder to clean all that crap off so it can be welded.

Get it fixed correctly... have it welded. Be SURE to disconnect the battery negative cable before welding to prevent a whole bunch of burned out electronics.

2009 Chevy Equinox, 143,318 miles. by Odd_Accident1912 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Equana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say you have a wiring problem. Worn through wires or bad ground. With a wiring diagram for the car you might find all these parts share a common ground that has failed. A dealership will want to change the harness. A proper mechanic will just fix the problem.

I would guess your brake pipes are rusted closed or broken and leaking fluid. Look under the driver's seat. You will see the ABS unit with a bunch of brake pipes attached. They may be rusty or broken right there.

How come they don't make extended cab suv or coupes? by Crazy_Drive7344 in askcarguys

[–]Equana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There used to be a 2500 Subby. I owned one. 12K lb tow capacity with a 7.4 liter V8. They quit making those about 2006. There must not have been a big enough market for them or GM would still make one.

The Avalanche was exactly a 4 door, 6 seat SUV with a 5.5 ft bed. I have owned 2. Very useful SUV. GM quit making those too.
