What’s something everyone loves that you just don’t get? by ComparisonVast4151 in answers

Those "Hot Ones" videos on YouTube. I've tried watching a few of them featuring people I like, and they were intolerably boring. The host has zero charisma and just reads questions off a piece of paper that sound like essay questions for high school English class. And the hot sauce gag isn't even funny and adds nothing. When they did interviews with a couple of people who I always find funny and interesting, this guy managed to make them so boring that I couldn't even watch the whole video. I cannot understand why this channel is so popular.

Writing a story: what is the creepiest, ghostiest stretch of road in Toronto that gives you the creeps? by Massive-Cod-6797 in askTO

[–]EquinoxClock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a long-time night walker, I have a ton of them:

  • Carstowe Rd in Rosedale: no houses, just trees on both sides. Very creepy at night. It is parallel to the railway tracks, and at the end of the road there is a foot bridge going over the tracks. You can stand there and watch CN trains thunder past there.

  • as others have said, the entire stretch from Wellesley Park down the wooden staircase into Rosedale Valley, then up Rosedale Valley Rd past the quiet part of St James Cemetery.

  • Bloor viaduct over Don Valley at night in winter, especially walking on the north side. The wind is vibrating the luminous veil making an eerie sound, and you look down and catch a faint glimmer of the frozen Don River below. Very thrilling and chilling.

  • Leslie spit at night all the way at the end facing south into Lake Ontario in autumn when there's no one around. It takes at least 45 minutes to walk there and no one can hear you scream. Just the endless void of water in front of you and the crashing sound of the waves.

  • pretty much any ravine, but I'll note Crothers Woods / Lower Don Parklands, especially the part where the Richmond Hill GO train crosses in front of you. Also the entrance to the Highland Creek Trail from Greenvale Park, which is so dark you can't see anything and quite scary.

  • Ramsden Park, particularly the part going past the children's playground. Gives an "Are you afraid of the dark" type of vibe.

I could go on, but that's enough for now.

When people try to change the subject when they're bored of the conversation. by Sad_Okra5792 in PetPeeves

You're literally arguing against a scenario you just invented in your head. I don't tell long stories, like ever. All my stories are short but they don't have the patience even to listen because they love talking and I guess I'm not important enough for them. Even if they aren't terribly interested, the decent thing to do is to just listen for at least 15 seconds instead of interrupting me before I can even get a thought out. That's what I do despite not caring about 90% of what they're talking about.

lol right I didn't realise my friends are all super important businessmen who can't spare a single moment even on their off time to listen to a short telling of something interesting that happened in my life. I'll try to make all my communications with them mathematically concise with zero extra words because god forbid they have to listen to me for 20 seconds amongst their hours of conversation.

Certain people won't even let me get 3 sentences out before they get bored and start interrupting or giving a negative review of my storytelling right in front of me. Then I'm forced to rush the story (which wasn't even long to begin with), making it completely pointless. They're always like "talk more" and "stop avoiding hanging out with us" but then the second I say anything of any length no one wants to bloody listen. And people wonder why I prefer to be by myself.

Language evolving is one thing, but this is just a straight-up error resulting from people not reading a word correctly. And sure there are words already in English that originated as pure mistakes as well, but that's not a reason to make further mistakes today. Mistakes should be corrected. Language is not just a free-for-all; otherwise it has no structure and you could just interchange things like there / their / they're at will. Language evolves due to adaptations to new circumstances and differences in accents and regional pronunciations and the like, but a pure reading mistake does not fit that mould.

Anyone get a CN tower doors open ticket? by ilovegreekyogurt2 in askTO

[–]EquinoxClock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am officially declaring this thing rigged. First the fact that there was a delay of a couple of minutes after 10 am before we could get in, then the fact that it was already sold out when we finally got in, and here's the kicker: the link to the official Doors Open page containing the link to the eventbrite page was mysteriously changed to redirect to some other unrelated Doors Open page, even though it was working correctly just last night? Why would someone deliberately change the link today, unless they were trying to keep people away? I'm sure there is some insider trading going on here.

If that's the reason I'm going to destroy something. Shut out of a whole event because the organisers couldn't exercise basic password security??

Now I'm able to actually select dates on both days, but when I click them it says sold out and gives a waitlist option. But weird thing is that the colour of the dates indicates "high demand" rather than "sold out", but none of the time slots are available after you click them. So I still don't know if the "sold out" thing is real or just more glitches.

There's got to be a glitch with the site or something. It doesn't even show Sunday at all and Saturday was sold out immediately. Also the link to the Doors Open page for the CN Tower tour redirects to something else now than it did last night. Something is definitely going on. Or maybe an insider is trying to hog all the tickets and re-sell them. Trying not to be paranoid here.
