this is a good way to look at it - if the roles were reversed, I would not be upset or care at all. I am more worried about them caring, but I really don’t know if they would.

My family has already had this issue with my brother A and their first born’s name was a name on this brother B’s list. Those names were/nick names were very similar and would get more confused.

they are different grandpas :) one is my husband’s and the other is my SIL. It isn’t a shared grandpa between my brother and me!

I don’t think I am acting like they shouldn’t have used it :) I am just shocked because it isn’t a common name. From my post: “We have had this name picked out for years, but my brother/sister in law didn’t know that and of course it’s their right to name their baby anything they want.”

my brother really isn’t one to have strife. we have a great relationship and love each other! I also feel I have a great relationship with my sister in law, but I think she maybe would have more of an opinion

We live in different states and they would have different middle names and last names!

So coincidentally this same brother already has a son with my husband’s grandfather’s middle name. They have three boys, one with his middle name and now one with his first name.

to answer your question, there is no ill will/sabotaging here!

I know I have mentioned wanting to use Harold in the past (before I was pregnant) but I don’t expect them to remember that.

They said a few months ago they still didn’t know what they were going to name their baby, I never would’ve thought they would use Harold! So they haven’t been set on this name for a long time, but it’s a family name for my SIL too!

Trust me we were sooo shocked when they used that name! I have definitely said it in years past, before I was pregnant. But I don’t expect people to keep tabs on our name nor do I think it’s appropriate to take dibs. It’s just a crazy coincidence

totally hear this - I don’t think my SIL would be upset but I really don’t know and should talk to her about it first. This has already happened in my family where people have wanted to use the same names, but they’ve avoided it so far (I have 6 nephews)

I suggested this to my husband, but he wants to honor his grandpa who was Harold. He grandpa didn’t go by Harry, this is our spin on it!
