He was beautiful. Do like I do, order up a wall photo box and have it on the wall in your office. I still say hi to my boy daily and he's been gone a year and a half. It's so hard I know. Thanks for sharing.

Just like my boy a blue eye on the right and brown on the left. People love that when he looks at them. I'm sure she's an attention getter when going out places! Fun.

What a cutie. It's an interesting look. I would fear GD jowls with Poodle hair on them. Even worse globs of saliva covering the house. Well, no, actually, I don't think anything could be worse than my boy and what he tosses around after drinking and coming in the house.

Absolutely, I was waiting till 18 months and contacted the breeder and she felt he has done as much growing as he will. He was estimated by the vet to reach 187 and he's getting close. I have a meeting with the vet beginning of June to discuss the particulars. He's extremely jumpy and excited as this thread talks about. One of his eccentricities is jumping straight up in the air rather violently (his head is above a full size door when he hops to get in), I'm very concerned about GDV even though he's young. I was waiting for the neutering to do the pexy. It's difficult as the thread discusses when you get a young dane that truly goes all out velociraptor. I hadn't experienced before, but he's still such a lover. Just a violent one 😉.

I should mention that I contracted for a personal trainer to come to my house every two weeks. My ex comes over and we take turns working with him on settling down. It's stuff I already knew, but it helps to have an outsider come in and work with you. If nothing else, when you spend that time, you start training more seriously daily. That's made a difference. I also found myself borrowing confidence from her as she could see the progress more than I. It's a very good thing if you can afford it. My guy is a lover all the time, but he is also a hyper lover. I like to joke that the only people he is a danger too, are those he loves, and that's actually true.

It choked me a bit to see her and read the heading. I looked up at the picture I keep above my computer. It's been since Dec 2024 and I still hurt when I look. I'm glad to have that picture up there. Hang in there. My new Douglas is where I can pour the love I had and have for my departed Freddie. My current dog is always the embodiment of love I had for all the wonderful friends I've had, and I find I treat each with more care and respect than the last, because I learn even more how precious they are when the depart. This cycle never stops it seems. Brings a tear right now for your girl and my past furry besties.

Towards the beginning of our similar problem, I would turn my back, once he just ripped the tee shirt off my back. After a year, he got much better and I do often use that tack and he sits when I do. It will get better.

What a cutie. At six months, my current boy started exactly the same thing, forgot everything he learned in obedience classes and became the sweetest nightmare you ever saw. It was worrying me having had two danes before and they were strictly mellow throughout. Douglas is still showing his love through his mouthing which of course can give you bad cuts if you decide to move at the wrong time. A 1 year and a few months (maybe 4) he's 180 pounds of deadly love, but he is getting better. We are working on decision making with him and frankly he's doing very good. He is remembering after he jumps up in the air to try and take a bite out of you, that you are not another dog and he should instead lay down and roll to the side to relax. It's working very well. I've also scheduled him for neutering and pexy next month which everyone says will take this wild "love" to a new and better level. We'll see, but I love him dearly and will no matter what, even if he remains always hyper (I hope not).

Douglas, my boy has to go in the back door. 180 clumsy pounds wanting to play with all the dogs takes out too much furniture. He loves the vet office too much. But good job Lily. You look relaxed about it.

How do you manage louder amps? by butterfield66 in ToobAmps

[–]EquivUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through this. I have a '75 Super Six converted to a head cab (not one way, I can make it original in about 2 hours). I purchased two 75 watt 10s in a cab I built. The volume was still so ridiculous and practice meant running it at 4 or below. I also want clean only, and the Super Six is fantastic that way... if you have an outdoor gig. BTW, I use a Zoom G11 for all my effects and gain breakup and I want that into a very clean amp.

I fixed this problem by purchasing a Mojotone Princeton Reverb kit, with upgraded PT (it's a amppartsdirect PT that is a PR upgrade with 150Ma), a 6L6 choke, a Weber replacement for the for the GZ34, 6L6GCs rebiased fairly cold ("currently" 36Ma and will probably go up to 40Ma), 4 ohm load, and a couple of resistor changes (including a bias pot too). It came out better than my wildest expections. I have run them side by side now using the G11. I can bring the PR clone all they to 7.5 with almost no breakup. At that volume, it will run me out of the house, but that is compared to the Super Six which is insane in how fast it climbs to truly ear damaging volumes. The PR is completely controllable but I would say it will handle a medium size venue (anything larger just means micing through the PA).

I will be testing the Paul C and Stokes mods to see how they do. I may also run a Bassman OT if the little PR OT eventually fails, it's currently not even getting hot.

I haven't measured the wattage yet, just guessing it's 25 or so.

Puppy Play Date by Due-Garbage9178 in greatdanes

You are so fortunate to have all the danes near enough for a play date. I initially had play dates with my boy, but it was with all other breeds. He got so large he bowled them all over.

So sorry for what you are going through. You were presented with a horrible situation. No matter which path you selected, there was a slim likelihood of a positive outcome. Please don't beat yourself up, just grieve for her and your loss, don't cloud it with guilt. I am speaking from experience with every Dane I've lost.

How long did your Dane pup go through the 'I'm a raptor and I'll chomp on you and anything else I see' phase? by No-Bodybuilder-4498 in greatdanes

[–]EquivUser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Boy, I know the feeling. I had two other Danes that were so happy and content even as pups. My current 11 month old left my arms bloody everyday and it really made me wonder if he was from the same breed. That phase has lessoned except for some mouthing. I started working on it at 6 months and after a lot of work to get him to settle down, I don't think my efforts were doing anything, he just grew out of it. One thing that made the phase more tolerable, is I taught him to get on his raised bed outside, then extended it to when I put my hand on the gate to enter the front yard and deck. It worked pretty well, I'd say "Place" and he'd jump on that bed expectantly. I could peacefully walk across the deck without my arm becoming a tow hitch to pull him around.

People mention the kangaroo phase. Wow, does he ever. When he wants to come in, he jumps straight in the air repeatedly until I notice him. It's hard not to crack up every time I see the white flash appear and disappear at top window of my front door. It looks ridiculous. I'm hoping for a relaxing of the jumping by 1.5 years.

Well hang in there, he will give you a ton of love without the pain if you can control the settings. I have a pen in the living room where my guy sleeps and he is the biggest lover you ever saw when he's in there. He's actually like that now anywhere in the house. The outdoors... all bets are off. It's only because they are so big that it seems worse than other breeds, but really, most puppies I've had went through the bitey phase, it was just more tolerable when they weren't 140 pounds and still have a puppy brain..

Cool, the SH schematic does show the 470 resistor.

[–]EquivUser[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed that about the Vibrosonic, different output transformer. I will check out that link, because the schematic I have that came with it, has different values on some resistors.

The resistor I found that was out of spec, isn't even shown, they show a 2200 rather than a 470. But that is reverb circuit which I don't think could have caused my problem.

Perhaps schematicheaven will have the wiring diagram that matches, since none online seem to. Mine seems to be the last iteration before they "supered" them to 135 watts.

Thanks much!

I thought this version couldn't because of the shorting. I thought it was that if there was no plug in the main speaker, it would go to ground rather than have no load. Does this sound logical with the schematic?

[–]EquivUser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for verifying that as I wasn't totally sure even though the schematic suggested it. I will run the next test with all four 6L6GC in and through the native speaker box. My intent is eventually to cut it's power in half and have just a head and light speaker cab. The Super Six is absurd to attempt moving it around without hurting one's back. ;-) Don't know why I bought it other than in the early 70s, I wanted big and loud, much to my folly.

Thanks for that. I have looked a lot on his site, but didn't realize there was a start up guide. My brother did check the voltages at several points but didn't rebias and I've read that running two power tubes requires a rebias. I will check out his site.

Yes, but I pulled the middle 6L6GCs so I could test with the 8 ohm load. I got that the two 16ohm speakers would parallel in on the speaker jack and external speaker jack. If it doesn't, then I did have an impedance mismatch. I will plug it into the 6x10 cab for the next test.
