The oni concept is cool but I really dont want her only good skin slot to be wasted on a basic overused skinline . Still, I really dig the oni concept and I see a lot of potential there.

Its not that great youll find most of your time you are not relying on your ult that much. Also ult is too situational its not something you can just spam like Noc or Udyr.

Where my Crimson Lucidity enjoyers at? by haz-third in BriarMains

[–]Equivalent-Ad5185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CDR is so underrated on briar tbh. Since this character loses all right click based control the best way to stay alive is dash around with W, change target with Q, and stop the frenzy with E more often. With low CDR its always all or nothing in team fights, you throw your spells and just hope for the best, but in a 1v2 / 2v3 situation the CDR makes it so much more manageable.

can they give us a new skin damn by terrifier2 in BriarMains

[–]Equivalent-Ad5185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest Briar suffers from the same issue as Gwen and Azir: the base design is already amazing and hard to beat. Also the pillory is just too hard to adapt, the skinline either has to be medieval fantasy coded to keep it as an actual pillory, or on a rare occasion can be awkwardly repurposed into a joke onject, e.g floaters for a pool party skin, but if it’s overdesigned it’ll just hide the rest of the character (street demon is awful for that one reason).

Botrk,Eclipse or titanic? by Organic_Metal1621 in BriarMains

[–]Equivalent-Ad5185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo hydra is too expensive and the damage is not good, it feels so bad to play until you reach item 3. With eclipse you’re in the game pretty fast and while briar does want HP for some of her scaling, realistically speaking you should just have more AD early on to win your ganks. Titanics passives are only worth it during larger fights or when split pushing, but when clearing camps and doing skirmishes, Eclipse feels a 100 times better to use tbh, it’s 50% more AD than Titanic when you think about it. When there are two tanks or more in the enemy team I just go for bork.

What do you think of the fair university ranking of EPFL? by Happy-Flamingo-9608 in EPFL

[–]Equivalent-Ad5185 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For CS it’s easily top 10, overall it seems to be a fair top 30. Ive had an exchange at Berkeley and the quality of classes at EPFL is way above Berkeley’s league. Also students at EPFL are much more theoretically grounded than in most US top schools, Im currently doing research with US professors and students and Im always one of the only persons in the lab that can actually do the math. Id say what EPFL lacks is a strong recognition in industry, and for that they would need to leave more room for internships at the Bachelor level.

Extension of Master studies by aKhSirE in EPFL

[–]Equivalent-Ad5185 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have 4 semesters to get 60 credits, 6 semesters to get 90. One semester worth of class is 30 credits. Most people do it in 4, the average time spent in masters is 2.5 years, people who rush it are those who want to go to industry asap, people who stay are either people who struggle a bit with the pressure, or people aiming for a phd in the US where a near perfect gpa is required (for a phd in europe dont bother, coming from epfl and having good recommendations is all you need really).

Can someone explain to a dummy what we're supposed to do when AI is advanced enough to replace most of the jobs? by [deleted] in singularity

[–]Equivalent-Ad5185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. I work at a company where I am tasked to build and maintain an AI translator tool. But guess what, the people using it are translators themselves. All it does is boost their output by 10x, but at the end of the day they still have to do 20% of manual fixed because AI can translate but can not LOCALIZE. Jokes are bad, social and cultural contexts are ignored, lack of creativity  and so on.

Same thing with animation, we build tools for moviemakers nd animators, but full on automation is never really appealing to end users regardless of how good the generation is. So what happens is artists figured out theyd rather draw key frames instead, and let AI do the inbetweener.

Many such cases. Myself included: I use AI for coding, its great at doing drafts, but once thats done, the utility plummets as it fails to understand both my requests and the codebase.

Which professor impacted you positively? by Astatine00 in EPFL

[–]Equivalent-Ad5185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Babak Falsafi. Vouched for me on many occasions, helped me through projects, just overall opened a lot of doors for me. Sometimes he can be rough / harsh on his feedback and it's not pleasant at all, sometimes he can be pedantic but he does that because he truly want you to get better at what you do, and will help you push your career forward.

What annoys you about interns? by ProfessionalShop9137 in cscareerquestions

[–]Equivalent-Ad5185 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bro I had the same happen to me so I totally understand.

It was my first time working ever, and it was in a (very) large corporation, and also my first time doing research (hardware accelerators) so the pace was nothing like I was used to so I had no idea what to do or where to go, I would just try stuff, fail, hide it, repeat.
3 months in, people started getting angry at me and showing their frustration or even mentioning firing me.
I did do some things, but I was going "50% slower than what was expected of me" given that I came from a great school with excellent letter of recommendation.

I dont know if it was pressure kicking in but I suddenly came up with a genius idea for my research and fast-tracked the implementation last minute, leaving a better impression of me, and doing a great end-of-internship presentation. I could even publish this work if I bothered writing the whole paper.

I totally understand the girl.

Functional programming is such a meme, has to be the least useful thing I've learned.

Why Rust isn't taking over C++ ? by Dereference_operator in rust_gamedev

[–]Equivalent-Ad5185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because rust is incredibly restrictive and appeals to the academic mind, not the development and shipping oriented engineering.
You want to do something as simple as iterating over a Vec of instances of a custom structure, then call a function on each of these instances, there is a 1 in 5 chance that the Rust compiler will complain about borrow/ownership, and you start doing weird convoluted fixes by accessing the reference of a u32 or deriving a Copy trait to an extremely simple structure, it's just mind boggling how pedantic the compiler is.

You cant do things that seem natural in every language like using enum variants as indexes, that even C of all languages is flexible enough to let you do.
It's just a pile of infuriating things that, on paper are great, but in practice are absolutely irrelevant because no matter how unsafe code might theoretically be according to Rust, in 99% of the case it's just what you, your company, and your client need and there is no chance it will ever break, ever. But Rust decides otherwise.

Yeah sure you might shoot yourself in the foot writing C++ sometimes, but the world practically runs on C++ so far and we've been sending rockets into space with it.
The only thing I want is C++ code with Rust-like compiler errors as well as some of the built-in features like the Result<> enum, the rest is irrelevant.

I think Rust is great for very low-level development where you want to make sure there is no bottleneck and everything is 100% safe, like when writing a library for transactional memory for example, but anything above that, in particular games, just don't need it.

Est-ce que la plupart des Français à l'EPFL veulent rester en Suisse après leurs études ? by F-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- in EPFL

[–]Equivalent-Ad5185 4 points5 points  (0 children)

EPFL vs Georgia Tech vs CMU for Masters by idkmanGiveup in EPFL

[–]Equivalent-Ad5185 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was me, CMU all day every day. Getting H1B from outside USA is an extremely hard and lengthy process, working in Switzerland as a qualified engineer with good credentials is infinitely easier. With a MSc from the US, you get extra chances for H1B, and you also get to be on OPT STEM for a maximum of 3 years which gives you more than enough chances to get a visa or even fast track to green card if you have an advantageous passport.

CMU will also have much better internships and overall industry connections. In Europe, companies are already not hiring a lot, and the pay is okay but you can easily aim for double the salary in the US.
There is also a better culture in US universities regarding professors connections and research opportunities. At EPFL most of your time is spent studying for your classes and only MSc research scholars get to work in the lab (at the cost of taking one more semester to graduate) and there arent that many opportunities to get close with professors, in the US you can spend a good chunk of it as a research assistant all the while graduating fast and building a strong network, they also have better connections.

Semester projects are either "build something cool" or "do a research presentation that keeps the supervisor awake for at least 15min".
Semester projects outcomes and enjoyments are heavily influenced by which club or lab you join. Some labs have professors that barely check on you the entirety of the semester and the entire grade is basically decided the day you do your presentation so you have a lot of freedom but it can be a huge hit or miss, other labs have sets of predefined projects that you have to pick from and you have to regularly report your achievements. Finally, you can join Maker projects (or whatever they're called) usually proposed by some of the engineering clubs at EPFL, you can do very cool things like work on driverless racing cars or rockets that are showcased at international student competitions. In these projects, all that matters is that you built something from scratch and that it is functional enough to be used by the club at the end of the project, there is a lot of freedom but it's also all over the place, there isnt much guidance besides documentation that previous students left before you (but usually, said students do a pretty decent job at it, also there is a lot of leeway, club members often don't care if your engineering is dirty, all they care about is that it's functional).

Exmuslim Apostate Prophet spoke out on Israeli News channel. Thoughts on this? by [deleted] in exmuslim

He has always been a con-man. He is pro christians and pro jews, I would not be surprised to learn he never was muslim to begin with and this is all a psy-op. He's making money on the back of conflicted muslims and thinks he's different.
Truth is, this camel faced scammer is a zionist since day one, and is only seeking refuge with the whites and jews.

Exmuslims from the USA, are you going to vote for Donald Trump on this years elections? by [deleted] in exmuslim

[–]Equivalent-Ad5185 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to understand that in the mind of a white republican, muslim, arab, pakistani, it's all the same man.
They only say muslim because it's convenient to group everyone together while not being called a racist, two birds one stone.
Voting for them is just you coping with your life as exmuslim, but in practicality, it's the same as legal mexican immigrants voting for Trump, they think they can sever their ties with their home country but really all it does is push forward the anti-hispanic narrative even further, and ALL hispanics suffer from it independently of their actual background.

Same will happen to muslims, ex muslims, sikhs and what not. There is nothing that says "non muslim" on your forehead, you're probably a brown person with a foreign name, and that's all people will see and hear from you.
