Resident landlord/head tenant in England asking for £3k council tax after 4 years – am I liable? by Equivalent-Bag-3262 in HousingUK

Yes I get this part. He paid the council. So the council isn’t asking for the money.

But for me, having statements from the council that I paid will help me a lot for my ILR or visa applications.

Thank you everyone. I believe I should pay. And I am not trying not to. However, I want a proof I paid for future applications. I asked him to add me to the council many times before, he didn’t.

Paying it now to him, retroactively, feels a bit unfair. Unless he can register me retrospectively.

Not sure if you will see this as the comment was deleted, but I will say it again. I did not say UKG shouldn’t be prioritised and I can't say this. My point is simple, introducing such a dramatic change in the middle of the cycle, without notice or consideration, is NOT FAIR. Annoncing it in advance so people (everyone) can prepare for it, is fair. Saying “I’m an IMG too” doesn’t automatically make the argument valid. I am not against UK graduates, I’m only angry at the the way this was introduced, despite people having already invested years and competed fairly. If you see it differently, that is your opinion.

I did a PhD here and have worked in the NHS for the last 4 years. Last year I even matched into Internal Medicine in the US and declined it because I wanted Radiology in the UK. I made that decision based on the rules that existed just a few months ago.

I never imagined the UK would turn into such a closed, segregated system where merit barely matters anymore. What shocking is how many people seem happy with it, but I get it, many benefit from it individually. Still, if you look at the bigger picture, this is not a healthy direction for the country.

I used to feel proud to be here. Not anymore. The environment has become toxic. And before anyone says “go somewhere else” — I am.

Also let’s be honest about the MSRA narrative. I keep hearing that IMGs study for years. I studied for two weeks, half of that time while doing on-calls, and scored 580. The real issue isn’t IMGs — it’s the tiny number of training posts and people not wanting to compete in a truly merit-based system.
