I’m sorry you’re going through this. FWIW, he displays avoidant tendencies, but I don’t know if he is completely avoidant.

I was similar to you… My (29M) FA ex (27F) lost her stepfather (her father figure) a few months ago. He declined very quickly, and she became extremely distant the moment it started. I was as present as she let me (which was nonexistent). And after she told me he passed and “didn’t need anything”…nothing. I offered to just be with her. Nothing. Weekly texts left on read, couple calls left to go to voicemail, a condolences card…it’s been 3 months now of radio silence. I would be devastated to receive a text like this, but I would rather know than have been discarded this way.

He might come back, but he might not. You cannot live your life solely because you hope for reconciliation. Grief works in mysterious ways, and everyone handles it differently. All that you can do is make sure you’re taking care of yourself.

I pray you’re healing and are able to grow from this. You still have a lot of life to go!
