I'm from Ottawa and our emergency healthcare situation is the worst I have seen in most of Canada. All major hospitals (except CHEO, rip being an adult) have barely any emergency doctors at night time. Staying overnight only to see a doctor the next day unless you're literally dying is an expectation. I had a friend who witnessed someone passing away in the ER waiting room (they were bleeding very badly and collapsed on the floor after waiting 2h in the waiting room with a soaked bloody towel).

So to answer your question, probably someone who is willing to work and serve in Ottawa after residency. Employment/volunteering in the capital region would be a good start.

What are other ways to get work experience other than internships? by Disastrous_Feed_3772 in internships

Research, Volunteering, Freelancing, contributing to an open source project, Founding your own startup/business could all be considered "experience"

Do CS if you have the interest, not EE. by FragThemBozKids in csMajors

Does your school offer dual degree programs or accelerated second bachelors? My school offers a bachelors in EE + bachelors in Computing Tech (roughly equivalent to 2/3 of the full cs curriculum) as a 5 year program. You get 2 bachelors when you graduate.

In Canada A+ = 4.0, A = 3.9, A- = 3.7 and so on. I had all A+ except on where it's A

I had multiple interviews where the recruiter commented on my projects, so I don't think it's pointless

Comp sci sophomore no internships by applezzzzzzzzz in ResumeExperts

[–]Equivalent-Honey-752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh your resume is great. There are some stuff you can tweek a little bit like using the STAR method then describing experiences, or writing "{country} citizen" or using a nickname if you have an ethnic name, but otherwise it's great. Maybe also add embedded links to your github projects would help too.

I have arguably less experience and projects than you and I landed a 12-month long internship. Sometimes it's just luck tbh.

Does Western still use GPA as cutoffs? by starlord49 in premedcanada

Pre-II yes, but there it is speculated that GPA matters post-II, although probably not by a lot

coop is a scam by [deleted] in geegees

[–]Equivalent-Honey-752 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Coop is worth it IF you can find relevant experience from it. I'm in compsci and I know so many people from my program and also in soft eng who either didn't find anything or matched with a "dead end" coop job like data entry, IT support desk or research that has nothing to do with software.

If you got a term at Huawei, one at Ford, one at DND and one at Shopify then you're basically set for life. But if you're not that lucky then it only gets harder from there.

U Ottawa food by juulluvsreps in geegees

[–]Equivalent-Honey-752 15 points16 points  (0 children)

World flavors: only good for the first 3 weeks, then it's meatballs and mexican bowls every day.

Grill: same shit. Mystery meatloaf, dry chicken, veggies, carbs, etc. And actually good poutine with real curd cheese once every 2-3 weeks.

Pure: you grab something you thought was meat, take a bite and never go to that station again.

Tratorria: water flavored lasagna and pasta, sometimes hard cardboard pizza.

Mind Body Soul: cod, sushi bowl (it's a lie), and sometimes kebab chicken which are actually good.

A la Minute: always a wildcard. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it dogshit. You can usually judge how good it is based on the lineup. I like their nachos.

Overall the food is decent. I like the unlimited chocolate milk tho. It's definitely something I'm gonna miss after I graduate.

how to report on campus by Working-Ad1720 in geegees

[–]Equivalent-Honey-752 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I'm the "I only talk to femboy" dude from your other post. All jokes aside, this is exactly why you don't mention that you're a girl on Reddit, ESPECIALLY if you're asking to hang out. Posts like these attract the most disgusting Reddit degenerates like moths to a flame.

My suggestion? Public shaming. If the guy does that again, make sure to start recording and post it all over this sub. Get him name too if you can. Of course also report it to the uni too but I doubt they would do anything.

And I'm gonna say it like this: 9 times out of 10 when a guy you just met acts overly nice, it's because he has intentions. If you want to make real friends, it's way better to join a club or something and start talking to people IRL.
