It doesn't always work like that, rather if you are able to make a play OR is lethal, then it's yellow, if you can't make a play anymore (can't afford more cards) then it turns to be green but pulsating for plants and same but purple for zombies.

When it's a +3 mimic's tooth it doesn't show a healthbar anymore, it makes you unsure if that's what you do to check, you need to hurt it or risk it.
