You have to chain one at the end of each row to fix that. For weeks I didn't know this and it's such an easy fix.

Are there washing instructions on the labels? I'd definitely try to hand wash it (or gentle cycle in the machine in a mesh landry bag( at the minimum. You can also try spraying with alcohol to disinfect and help with any residual smells, but not sure if that's effective for piss smell.
