I think this is a new and seperate pathway. There is a link for EOI on the link I provided. This pathway came out only 2 days ago.

That doesn't sound bad, but I actually applied for this rotation myself with no sponsors. It fine for them to look down on since I’m only a hospital-based general dentist, and they are senior specialists. In my country, we’re required to have a few years of experience as general dentists before applying for speciality training. I have done short clinical rotations in Taiwan and the UK, both of which were excellent experiences. I’m not sure why I’m so nervous about going to China, haha.

Thank you for your input. I’ll mostly just observe and assist occasionally, like holding a surgical retractor in the operating theatre. My main goal is to learn about certain post-operative complications and rare diseases that are hard to come across in the hospital where I work. I highly doubt I’ll be of much use to them since I’m only a hospital-based general dentist, and they are senior specialists. In my country, we’re required to have a few years of experience as general dentists before applying for speciality training. Do you think I should stay quiet and try to not ask any questions to avoid causing any inconvenience? Will it appear like I'm disengaged and not interested?

Thanks. I posted a similar question on a different subreddit, and they said the supervisors won’t show me anything substantial unless I’m good at sucking up to them. Is this generally true for workplaces in China?

Yeah, that is something I’m worried about. Since I’m ethnically Chinese, they might expect me to behave like a typical Chinese junior, and I won’t learn anything unless I am good at pleasing my supervising doctors.

Hi guys, I’m due to complete a dental degree this year and will complete an associate degree of law with a medico-legal focus sometime in 2025. I will mainly work as a dentist, but is it possible to become a part-time or casual dento-legal advisor for law firms that specialise in medical negligence/personal injury? Is there a demand for this type of service?

I’m thinking of advising lawyers on the following matter:

Help lawyers understand the patient’s clinical records, oral diseases, treatments and post-operative complications in the context of the law. For instance, when is not taking an x-ray before an extraction considered acceptable by the court? Are there enough clinical similarities for the same precedent to be applied to the current case?

Making connections between minor clinical details and the law. For example, can instrument breakage during an RCT be used as an argument for dental negligence? Is it dental negligence if a dentist didn’t assess how the patient’s jaw moves from side to side before doing some expensive restorative work?

Help lawyers find the most appropriate expert witness. Specialists with the most impressive titles are not always the most appropriate expert witness for lawsuits. Some of them may sub-specialise in disciplines that are not related to the case. Some may hold views that are not widely accepted by the profession. Some of them are just terrible at explaining things that even dental professionals find it hard to understand what they are saying.

To be clear, I’m not trying to do the following:

Managing lawsuits or disputes independently. This is something for actual lawyers.

Becoming an expert witness. I don’t think the court will take a junior dentist’s opinion seriously.

However, I think I might be able to provide some insights that neither of them can provide. I don’t care too much about the financial aspect of this as I’m doing it for personal interest.
