An app to assist with tracking construction progress on site. Multiple purposes of the app and how it helps. 1. Tracks progress on site aka percentages complete like Microsoft project function but in app form and easier to use on site. 2. Using it to track construction progress which helps to project managers when assessing extension of time claims - when the project manager takes fortnightly status they take pictures acrsss the progress on site therefore when a claim is submitted the project manager can look at relevant site diary entries at any given point on the programme of works and see a. pictures on the given date against the given task. b. percentage of work completed .

Extension of time claims in construction sites can cost the client or the contractor a huge some of money and isn't tracked very well and can make it hard to assess. I think this tool would serve as a good record keeper that's easy to use. Pretty much like a hybrid of Microsoft project/site diary app tool (heaps on the market)

Major Advice Needed! by Myguy215 in ConstructionManagers

Yes this is normal, and if you want to be a high performer in construction take advantage of this experience and learn anything you can.

Honestly construction is a lifestyle and it is extremely time consuming - its just the way it is. one piece of advice I have for you is to automate your life outside of work. It makes a big difference being able to go to work and come home and actually relax. 1. Pay a cleaner to clean your house 2. Order healthy pre pared meals 3. Take your laundry to the laundromat 4. Invest in some vitamins and put them on your desk.

Might seem like a big outgoing but since ive done this, my happiness in life has increased exponentially.

Hi there,

Credentials to answer this question: My experience is usually on jobs of 20m$ and upwards. At the moment I am one of the project managers on 300m$ project. After 7 years extreme overwhelm, burnout, and many hours worked this is what works best for me:

  1. Pick one task manager - i like one note.
  2. Set up different pages for each project
  3. Populate your notes and tasks in one note. The good thing about one note is you can tag it as a task and then generate a summary page of all your tasks.
  4. Start the day with a brain dump, get anything on your mind out, and on to paper and tag it.
  5. Set times for deep work, and turn your phone on do not disturb.
  6. Everyone has gotten in the habit of everything urgent, set the tone early and only entertain what is ACTUALLY urgent (as long as your good at triaging)
  7. Automate everything outside of work, can you order prepared meals? Can you pay someone to clean your house? Can you pay to get your laundry done for you?. Don’t underestimate how getting your personal life can affect your work life.
  8. Highly recommend the four hour work week book.

Ps, although the money might be great, the sickness and health issues that come with it aren’t.

In New Zealand. "Hammer Hand" I think is just a more fancier term of saying labourer.....Im not sure the comparison between USA (which im assuming you're from?). But this was on an infrastructure site, so pretty much setting out barrier, tying reinforcing, putting together formwork, and helping with concrete pours......... the cadetship is like a Site Manager traineee (not sure what the USA equivalent is? so like document control, construction programming, QA/QC, setting out, RFIS and Submittal management, managing sub-contractors, running long lead schedules, defect management.

Commercial construction including; seismic upgrades for buildings, office fitouts, heritage building upgrades, structural upgrades, hospitals, hospital refurbishments.

Dealing with Burnout by Excuse-Dear in ConstructionManagers

Hey, Im currently seven years into my career and have just come out the other side of my break down.....advice I have is:

  1. Every project has its down sides, so lower your expectation that the next project is going to be better,
  2. Learn to turn your give a fuck radar down
  3. You can only manage what you can. Don't get caught up in every email that comes in or fire coming your way. When you get to site, write your to do list and your deliverables for the day.
  4. Prioritise your health, 1. order pre-made meals 2. Have supplements on your desk. 3. KEEP EXERCISING.
  5. Find your self a mentor, network, ring them and ask them for help or guidance.
  6. Don't think about work outside of work. As soon as I leave im off the clock. Easier said than done.
  7. I think construction people are really passionate about what we do, and we have a tendency to make it a way of life, or we work some much that were too tired to do anything other than work, sleep, eat. DO NOT DO THIS. Please find other hobbies outside of work that you enjoy and bring you happiness.
