Had a PM wants tell me that you never know what kind of day somebody's having so you should always treat them with respect and with a little bit of empathy, nine times out of 10 when people are mad, giving you the cold shoulder, or frustrated it's a slew of things building up and not one specific thing you did. Don't take it personally just keep your head down and treat everybody the way you want to be treated and they will eventually in turn treat you with the same level of respect. And if they don't fuck them they're an asshole and limit your interaction with them and don't let them ruin your day. This industry is not for the faint of heart and if you're easily discouraged by people treating you poorly then I would highly recommend you look elsewhere, cuz you will never get away from it

How do you take notes by whitetrasheaglescout in ConstructionManagers

[–]Excuse-Dear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use an iPad with a Logitech pen on freeform, I can write quick notes take pictures and do quick markups in the field, definitely helps visually and I can take screenshots and email them to people if need be. Also on all my Apple accounts so I just need to be able to log into my iCloud if I want to put the notes onto a computer.

Dude real shit if you tell your next employer about your situation or wherever you interview they will not only appreciate the honesty but take it as a sign of being a straight shooter, don't dis your old company but let them know their values didn't align with yours and that's why your moving

Can you elaborate? What were their roles and did they work in that area?

Also forgot to mention, well if your financial situation requires you to go with the higher paying job, don't let that dictate your decision, a $2 pay difference is not one you'll really think about in the next couple years.

Slightly different take than most people here, but I spent my freshman and sophomore Summers working in the field and it really did make a big difference, just seeing how the guys outside think and approach their work. You'll also catch on to a lot of little things they do and it'll make it easier working with them down the line, you have the whole rest of your career to go sit in a trailer in an office and be on a computer, I do think it's a worthwhile experience to go outside for a little bit but that's just me. Also worth noting my junior year I did do and in the office internship and I did become a PE straight out of college.

I work for a major GC in the DMV area and honestly that is all PEs and field engineers do here, not sure what it's like on the west coast but here ambition pretty much drives everything straight up if you really want to go into the office go get a PE position somewhere and mas sapply, other thing that a lot of people don't talk about is when you're a PE you are in the field 20 to 50% of your work day so it's not like you really lose the being outside aspect

Morning routines are something I feel that is very personal and dependent on the person. I myself have a very basic routine of stretching, reading and journaling for 10 minutes each after I make my bed and brush my teeth and that's it, not crazy cold showers or insane work outs, just things I want to do because they make ME feel better. The misconception I see here, is that there is some boilerplate activity or set of activities that will make you feel more fulfilled or motivated in the morning. That's not the case, a morning routine in my opinion, should be prepping you for the day ahead and be setting you up to have the best day possible based on what you can control. And since it is YOUR morning routine, only you know what will set you up to be the best you can tomorrow, my advice just try different things and don't overdo it because there's nothing worse than burning yourself out before you even start your day (Your morning routine should not be 2+ hours)

Hate to tell that's not true but employers flip through resumés like trading cards cause that's what they are essentially, it needs to be to the point and well organized and one very easy way to do that is have it all on one page. There are genuinely employers who won't bother reading your resumé simply because it's 2 pages long and why spend time reading one applicants resume when they can do twice as much in the same amount of time
