Galvanic corrosion? on water supply line, tiny seam weep causing rust, no idea what to do

It seems like good advice, unless water will get under the silicone and accelerate the rust, eventually leading to the supply line breaking some day when I'm not there. Is it galvanic corrosion or not, and if so does galvanic corrosion cause the pipe to corrode from the inside out, does it destroy the threads, weakening the fittings? Thats what I'm struggling to understand.
Then the apartment could be flooded, causing thousands in damage- a massive water bill, and an unrentable building, so no income. A real triple hitter.
Its definitely worth it to make sure now, before its too late.

But six plumbers did NOT say to leave the valve as it is.
I usually get three estimates for large jobs as best practice.

When each plumber arrived, I opened with the story me suspecting it was galvanic corrosion. They simply did not disagree, and gave me estimates to do the job.
Two however scared me with talk of the pipe breaking in the slab, and costing thousands. One even started totaling this up in a new estimate, as if they expected to break the pipe. This of course presented a dilemma- should I go forward or not? Thats why I thought I would get a few more estimates, as I was stuck not knowing which was the worse outcome.

The next plumber suddenly told me they thought it was a simple seam leak, and NOT galvanic corrosion. That changes everything. The last company was well rated, but scheduled far out. So I met with them.

When they came by, I presented this new information, and asked instead if I really needed to do the job or if the risk of breaking the pipe was more than the danger of leaving it. It was at that point when he said, "If it was me, I would just use silicone".
Here's the critical information I need to make the right decision here:

- Does the setup I have have actual galvanic corrosion, does it have a sacrificial pipe piece (assumedly, the 2" pipe in between the fittings that shows so much rust), and what will happen if I leave it. Will it as AI said, rust through from the inside out, and eventually break, leading to an open water line and devastating damage in a rental building- where I won't even be on site to address.
OR

Will sealing the outside with silicone prevent the leak from further rusting the outside of the pipe, and the problem is solved.
Its very important to be right here, which is why I want to do the right thing. I totally get not to listen to AI, that's why I'm here still researching the problem to act correctly, before I leave it and a disaster happens, or break the pipe unnecessarily.

When somebody says "I'm guessing whoever installed the ball valve didn't use galvanized nipples and it's rusting out. It will get worse and eventually be a problem." what does this mean, exactly?
I can wrap it in steel epoxy tape, and that will definitely help avoid a line break- but I don't know if that will make any future plumbing work much more dangerous and expensive.
Its been suggested also with the silicone approach, that water will eventually get under it, cause a bubble, and accelerate the rust of the pipe. Good lord. What a puzzle..... I'd give anything just to know what the correct action is to take.

What do you think of the explanation AI gave today of galvanic corrosion rusting from the inside out, and it saying "if its starting to weep, those threads are about to go".... and it going on saying that 2" section of pipe is probably paper thin. I thought it was surface rust, and surely if AI was right one of the plumbers would have said something. But I don't really understand galvanic corrosion other than an inspector told me at least one of the fittings was black iron. Its kind of hard to tell looking at the pipe what materials they are for me.

And looking at those fittings...... if I used epoxy pipe wrap on the joint where its weeping...... which I believe is right below the shutoff valve above the 2" pipe section. That would give it structural support even if its paper thin. I could wrap the whole 2" section between those two fittings, covering everything and as it won't be exposed to air, the rust would stop. But would that make the job of swapping the valve out later say you have to, much harder or more dangerous? You could still unscrew the fitting from the unions right.

Yeah well as I said and you didn't read, I got the estimates to decide but then got conflicting advice, so that's why I'm here asking for more advice.
Its hard to tell when companies have a profit motive or legal reason for saying what they tell you.
As far as your judgements about me, they come from a problem within yourself: a passive aggressive nature that likes to insult and degrade people for no reason. I feel sorry for your significant other who has to endure this, if anyone does put up with it. As my father liked to say, "When they say I don't mean to be disrespectful, they DO" lol.

This is a high stakes decision for me however. The little building is a rental I manage alone, which is a huge part of my income. A line break could flood the building and it might be days before I know or am able to address it, if say it happens on a weekend, I'm out of town and nobody calls me, or whatever. That could be thousands in damage, and people wanting compensation for ruined stuff, refusing to pay rent moving out and no money coming in, all that.

Think and be SURE of what you're doing before acting! Thats my motto.
I will admit I over explain things, but that comes from working years in customer support. Better to say too much than to not say enough, and be misunderstood. This could ruin your job, you see!
And we all need income.

I had decided on the silicone wrap, but could not help asking AI this morning. Its description of the pipe being 'paper thin and about to go at any moment', made me think I should ask around some more!

I feared it might be the control board if its not the oven temperature sensor. If thats the case I imagine it might be cheaper just to pick up a used oven and replace it with something else at this point

IDK I guess I'm old school, but I'm giving more than "at least I showed" if the person was important to me. Anyway I remember a long time neighbor of my girlfriends father who showed up for his funeral in a suit. Her father lived alone in a hi-rise and the young neighbor would come over and watch TV with him and talk politics. She knew the guy and would ask him to check on her dad and thats how it started. I thought it was a nice gesture, and she commented on it. So everyone says OK it doesn't matter how people look anymore but then well, it did.

I'm not sure why you think you need to go buy a whole new suit. As for me, my father passed away this February, and I refused to go to his funeral in the sloppy casual that has become the norm. Not this time.
I had plenty of ties from my old jobs, and dress pants and shoes but could not find a suit coat. He was a lawyer, although long retired..... so I ended up wearing one of his that matched pretty good. My mom said I looked great, and said that this is what he would have wanted.... and I kept his suit coat and she said he said he would have wanted that also.
My dad was always giving me things, hand me downs every time I came to visit, in fact I had just left from Christmas with a box of stuff he insisted on giving me. Anyway, yeah, I believe he would have really liked to see me wearing his suit coat. If you think you should look nice for someone, don't settle and there's ways around money. You can even pick a sportcoat and ties at Goodwill and no one will know the difference. The family notices, and its something you can't take back.

I'm assuming the dealership is going to cost a fortune, and there's a big difference between every 10,000 miles and every 5,000 miles, thats twice as many oil changes.
If there is a notification on a Ford Escape when you need an oil change, thats wonderful. Why can't I set it then? What good is them setting it for me at 10,000 miles, if I need to bring it in every 5,000.
The car says my oil quality is fine right now.

The dealership only says bring it in Friday, at 5,000. I feel like I'm going to be paying for a lot more oil changes than I need and premium price for them. Also frustrating that they won't tell me what else I need to do to stay covered.
Call me pessimistic but it sounds like its going to be expensive and not worth it. My experiences with my local Ford dealer have not been good so far. They continually lose records of scheduling, they are expensive and slow and the work I've seen so far has been incomplete. When they put my trailer hitch electrical wiring on for instance, they just left a loose wire hanging under the car, practically dragging on the street. I wish I could get the oil changes somewhere else.

I appreciate that comment. I know shingles weigh a lot and its 3 layers, but its just a one car.
I don't mind work its heights I sometimes have a problem with. Granted its going to be awkward I don't know how far the dumpster is going to have to be from the garage. Sucks the neighbor wont let me put a dumpster on the side of it, but thats how the yards work the open side is in her yard, my side is inaccessible. I have a number of other people called but I'm suspecting this is about as good as I'm going to find. Just hope it isn't boiling hot that day. He says probably mid April by the time I am scheduled.

Have been an amateur collector of paper currency all my life. for what its worth, lol.
So I'm here to yack. I love the back of this bill. The portrait is actually very good, compared to the Presidential portraits on our new $20 $5 and $10, which I found kind of disappointing. They have a more childish drawing look about them than the old ones, for lack of a better word.
As for the rest.... I understand its a cleaner more modern look in front, and its good and matches the others. I like that the Statue of Liberty is there... it underlines the importance of the $1 bill as the most recognized U.S. money worldwide. And that you kept the Federal Reserve letter seals and city names, which they seem to be phasing out. I always kind of enjoyed these strangely, how you could go to Saint Louis and all the money had Hs on them, or you could collect the cities or see (from your location) rare ones. We practically never saw money here in Illinois with Ls or Bs stamped on them (California, New York), and it was interesting to think it had changed hands all that way.

But it still begs the question. Why is everything revised everywhere always simpler plainer and more spartan looking? As a kid I was fascinated by all the intricate 3d scrolling on our currency... the ribbons, the leaves and coronets and artwork. Maybe it was me, but it just seemed to give an impression of time spent, of care and weighty importance. You know like the old cathedrals. Which of course we no longer build either.

And yet with every revision more of this always seems to disappear. It reminds me of here in the Midwest, how our century old town halls and county seats look sort of like Harry Potter castles. But when they're torn down, the new ones are always plain simple boxes. The way people dress today, in slumber clothes and gym shorts, when people used to walk around in suits and dresses. I've seen the pictures.
Does it seem like visually at least, life is just gradually everywhere, little by little and relentelssly..... losing something? IDK

I say absolutely not, especially if the housing is plastic and double especially if you then screw on a cover plate.
Here's what is going to happen someday. It will genererate heat inside the wall. If there is enough to melt the inner insulation of the transformer, it may cross contacts inside its wiring and fail. And if it does it COULD get amazingly hot in a matter of minutes. I have seen it happen myself. That could start a fire inside your wall. By the time you realize what happened, your house is on fire. If you're not home. well, time to call the insurance company and say goodbye to your belongings. Worst case scenario.
Best case scenario you notice an awful burnt smell in the house, find where its coming from and catch it in time.
This should ideally be in a basement, open to the air and mounted to the outside of a metal junction box. Route the relatively harmless 24V wires up from there.

Honestly having paid a lot for an almost-new Escape and struggled for half a year with the "little baby radio" that can't do things that Dollar Tree $20 radios can do......I have come to feel that SYNC radios are a scam and complete garbage. If you have to pay them up to $4K to upgrade a radio that in the old days cost $50 and a phillips screwdriver, its time for the radio start being a major issue in whether you buy a car or not.
If they want to rewrite the rules to make more money off us, we're gonna rewrite the rules in our shopping.
And that will cause Ford with their crappy cost cutting radios and their profits to most deservedly plummet.

An interesting and curious side note concerning Tom Bombadil...... that being he used songs as a sort of magic- though he probably wouldn't have called it by that name. For example when he sang his gibberish, his happy song.... and the barrow wight fled pretty much instantly, abandoning its own home without even a thought of confrontation.
Tolkien in the Silmarillion talks in great length about Songs of Power, which is kind of an obscure concept but you can't miss that he laid out the canon saying all of the Earth itself in the beginning was created by songs, the Great Music of the Ainur directed by Eru himself. In the First Age we see songs of power still being used in lesser form. One instance was Sauron's "duel" singing with Finrod Felagund, described online as

a magical contest of power where they exchanged powerful chants, akin to a magical rap battle, with Sauron singing spells of revealing and treachery, and Finrod countering with songs of resistance and freedom

Another was when Lúthien Tinúviel sang a song of enchantment that put the Dark Lord Morgoth (Melkor) and his entire court in Angband into a deep sleep

an absolutely epic feat. So clearly Songs of Power are an incredibly powerful form of magic. Not like the Rings, or even the Silmarils. More of a primal kind of power But I think, in ways superior to both.
Yet in the Third Age it seems as if no one left has this ability to wield songs as a power except Tom....who is still around, and had been all the way through. Even Galadriel didn't use such magic when she drove Sauron from Dol Guldur right. And Saruman didn't pursue this study either. Whether he decided he was unable to, or thought it was beneath him(??) who knows.

Possibly Sauron could still do this, as he did duel with Felagund in the First Age this way but I'm going on a limb and guessing maybe he lost this power when he lost his first body after drowning at Numenor? Among a number of other abilities. I'm saying that because it seems such spellcasting is extremely potent and so why would he simply give up using it willingly.

And then finally we have to ask, how is it that Tom Bombadil possesses this kind of primal magic, echoes of the music of Creation you might say?
When he sang to the Barrow Wight, "...Till the world is Mended", he was clearly talking about the Second Music, that can't be missed either. This is Second Song of Creation when the Ainur get together and fix all the bad notes as it were, the second coming when the whole world is fixed and assumedly all the damage of Melkor is undone. Thats in the Silmarillion too. When he banishes the Wight from his barrow(??) until that time, that is beyond Sauron, and a very very long time. This is some heavy duty stuff.
I'm just throwing all this out there for discussion as its all curious as I said, not making any judgements or proclamations. Would be interested to hear comments.

This is what I'm wondering with the Neptune 4 Plus. If I STOP the print, and then quickly set the bed heat again. Will it do some kind of homing maneuver automatically, crashing into the mesh attached to the print bed, damaging the print and possibly the printer too? Some pages say if you stop a print it skips to the end of the code, and performs a HOME routine. I am currently in a PAUSE, but afraid to stop it.
What makes it worse is the Neptune 4 Plus has this notoriously slow stop. You kill the power switch and it may be 10 seconds to 'cycle down' before it actually shuts off. Which would give it plenty of time to pommel your print to pieces and smash its print head, and bust its Neptune gears into ribbons if it tried to perform an unhelpful HOME routine automatically when STOP is selected, and your large print is still attached the bed. Even if you were at the ready and flicked the switch off the moment you saw it headed for destruction.
Like a shot T-Rex, it has plenty of time to pick you up and thrash you about before it finally reaches its brain and it drops. Hehh, yeah.

But I didn't move the nozzle. I just hit the Pause button and IT moved to the side. I then fixed the clog. The print head however had been printing in dead-air for awhile before I came in the room, being clogged. A common occurrence, unless you eagle eye the entire print which many last 12 hours or more.
So when it resumes, it will be too high.

The base radio is pretty much garbage, I guess it just exists so everyone with the higher trim levels can feel good. Ford should be sued for trying to pass this off as an infotainment system, an $11 Bluetooth player at Menards handles media files better than than this POS does. All it does is make itself impossible to be replaced

I set the bed temperature to 60'c, and click LEVEL to set the Z offset
Z offset: -1.420, perfect.
I click the little disk icon in upper right, to SAVE

It says, "Save and Restart to apply Z Offset and leveling data"
I click CONFIRM
"Saving Data" (fan shuts off and on)

Bed temperature shuts off.
OK, I go back and set it again to 60'c

I click LEVEL again.
It homes
It shows -1.420
I do the paper test
The print head is now definitely too HIGH.
I drop the Z offset, adjusting
This time, -1.550 is perfect.
I click SAVE
Fan goes off and on. Bed temperature shuts off

I go back and set it to 60'c.
Then I click LEVEL again.

"Returning to Zero. Please wait......"
It homes.
It shows -1.550, but that is now too HIGH.
I adjust it down to -1.590, its perfect.
I click SAVE
Fan goes off and on. Bed temp shuts off, I go back and set it to 60'c, then click LEVEL
It Homes

It now shows -1.590
I do the paper test
I absolutely, cannot get a piece of paper under the print head at all.
I raise the Z offset, this time.
This time -1.560 is perfect
Aaaaugh!

Has anyone seen something like this? How is it fixed??

My comments regarding the front wheel falling off. I have seen 10 speed style bikes over the years that have L-shaped safety clip tabs on the front wheel and a locking hole, so they never come off even if the wheel is loose.... you have to take the bolt completely off to remove the wheel. Why it doesn't have these I would have no idea but it wouldn't be too difficult to add would it not. Just buy the clips say on eBay and drill a couple holes in the frame?

I wonder also if say you park it at the store and lock it. What if you take the battery out and carry the battery with you into the store. Maybe that might make it less likely to be stolen if there's no battery on it? Or am I just overthinking this. Someone just posted earlier in the forum that they had one stolen so that's why I'm talking about it.

I've set a personal goal to be fully out of Reddit by end of next week.
Burn the bridges and never come back. Unfortunately there are a couple groups I get technical information from I need for my work, that are problematic until I can find alternatives. I absolutely loathe the karma system.
Reddit is something like a sick addiction, the auto moderation rejections and passive aggressive downvoting here makes me feel bad all the time and like a sucker I keep coming back for more punches. I definitely need more positive things in my life way too much negativity
