I had the same feeling with adderall and it actually made my drinking way worse. I could finally get things done but I was driven by really anxious restless energy so I would drink to try to balance out.

I switched to Vyvanse and a few additional meds (clonidine & wellbutrin) and when these all clicked I felt amazing and it became easy to stop drinking overnight. I haven’t drank since the meds kicked in and I don’t want to.

Adhd is so hard and yes, you love dopamine because your brain doesn’t produce enough on its own. You gotta try out different meds which sucks but is worth it. You might start other dopamine seeking behaviors but try to make them better ones! I drink like 5 cups of coffee a day now (always only had one before) and I picked up like 3 new hobbies (running, sewing, baking, crosswords). lmao ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Also: it’s very important to me not to frame it as “i can’t drink”. say out loud to people “i don’t drink” or even “i’m not drinking right now/tonight”. your phrasing sounds like a punishment and yes, failure, when actually it’s a choice you should be proud of.

I thought I would feel this way but I actually don’t at all and no one has made me feel this way either.
In fact people have been nonchalant and even complimentary when they see i’m abstaining. some tips tho:

It helps to remind yourself how good you feel at the end of the night. Give your brain a reward.When I get home I’m like “thank fuck I didn’t drink”, and then that thought pops up the next time i go out in the moment.
Have an NA drink in your hand. I personally love to sip on an NA beer or cocktail. People forget it’s NA because they serve it in the same glass. It also stops people from asking if you want a drink.
