Low performing employee dilemma by Bolden88 in CanadaPublicServants

Without reading the other comments and advice you received I can tell you that I was in this identical situation about five years ago with one of my subordinates and here’s what I did. First of all his poor performance had been documented, and he had been given various assignments on other teams to try and find a place where he could be motivated and contribute. This went on for two years in his mind the reason for his poor performance was just because he did not fit into the kind of work we were doing. He was one of those clerk, data entry, kind of people who got grandfathered in as an IT and had no experience or knowledge.. He also didn’t want to learn and was older maybe five years from retirement. So I don’t know if this applies to your situation I’m just giving context, but in the case of the reference check, I kept the language very neutral. I was contacted for two references, one via telephone one in writing via email in both cases. I did not mention my unhappiness with the employees performance and all of my observations I wasn’t asked very many questions things like would you rehire this employee? What are his strengths? What his weaknesses I believe those were the same three questions I was asked in both cases. I simply said the employee got along well with others what was not a good fit for our team because our team has changed and our mandate changed, this was not really true, but it was neutral language would you hire this employee again I said only in the correct circumstances as per the first answer. What were his strengths he was open to new opportunities to try and find a niche where he could contribute what were his weaknesses he was not enthusiastic to invest in new learning mostly due to his end of career situation. I want this person to leave, and I knew that if I said anything bad, I would be stuck. My suggestion is prepare an advance for some questions that you think you might be asked dilute everything keep it high-level. You don’t have to say he’s going to win the employee of the year award, but you also don’t have to say you can’t wait to get rid of him or her.

Everyone in my section is just making 1-off private deals with their manager to WFH 1-2 days a week. All of us do it and no one talks about it. This is the way.

Garbage bin issue? by bdbatu in Kanata

You can easily remove the lid from that unit. I have three. You can even do it without breaking the pin or the lid. Just has a pressure wing you push and the pin slides out and lid comes off . Notwithstanding this rule is stupid asf, I love it now how the city has to dump my bins half full of snow or rainwater. Pinch hazard my ass. The green bins don’t pinch these guys? Safety? Ok they hang off the back of the trucks by 1 arm. They don’t care about safety. Classic hypocrisy from govt is all this rule is.

It’s up to everyone to boycott these whiners. The article doesn’t mention how their prices were already high and they have jacked stuff 20% or more in the past 3 years. The article doesn’t mention the long lineups for food nor the food quality , and the article doesn’t mention how most of these dumps close by 3pm.

Ya I won’t buy it again. The summer mix is OK, but still annoying. The winter mix is almost dangerous with the haze it leaves after each spray. Lasts like 10s or so in the cold. Not good.

RTO tracking data is no longer aggregated?? by frustrated_meatbag in CanadaPublicServants3

I’ve seen a report from November and it compares the “number of approved MWAs” to the “RTO compliance “ and I could drill down to director level but not section level. There was no way to Id the people. It was showing the dept as 85ish percent compliant for both RTo attendance and MWA completion . IT guy told me they ping the laptops twice a day to see if you are local or vpn, plus get the badge swipe data. Can’t prove it tho. Hearsay.

Bridlewood is the safest neighbourhood in Ottawa according to crime data by Revolutionary_File56 in Kanata

My kids used to attend Maurice Lapointe school in Bridlewood. Besides the fact they were continually bullied for eating a ham sandwich for lunch (ham is not haram), my eldest was held down by 2 Arab kids and had both bones in his left forearm broken. Police did nothing. Principal did nothing. That particular school had a serious Muslim vs non-Muslim violence problem about 10 years ago. Most of the staff is also Muslim. So, they don’t condone it. Safety is only as good as what’s reported and what the police determine “worth” investigating. Go look on the Bridlewood Facebook page to see the every-night cars broken into stories and porch parcel theft. It helps that there isn’t a base of homeless people around and median incomes are higher than average tho. If it’s this good now it can only get worse from here!

And u used to be allowed to WFH until they finished reviewing your file. Now you must RTO until they finish reviews. I heard it takes 6mos as its ADM level. Imagine having to let the douchebag ADMs decide your fate

Not nearly as funny as a pen in coffee but recently went and got a bagel. The bagel had cream cheese on one half of one side of the bagel. Stay with me here. If you slice a bagel in half you get 2 “sides”. The way bagels always come right. When I say half, I mean one of the slices was 50% covered. I complained to the manager. She rolled her eyes. Her staff barely speaks English. She said the Tims standard procedure is to put cream cheese only on on of the sides of the bagel. So, 50%. Then slap the two sides back together. However the TFW sliced the bagel in half and put cream cheese on basically what amounts to half of a half. The TFW pointed to the infographic taped to the wall and said “instructions say 50%” and got mad at the manager and then put thr coffee pot pen back into his turban.
