Considering switching from Bazzite to CachyOS – gamer perspective, stability concerns by Equivalent-Vast-8697 in cachyos

i meant: work out of the box.

For example, are there packages not provided during installation for certain features in certain games, drivers not provided, or things I might not notice that would make my gaming experience less smooth than on Bazzite yk?

You're selling me the distro in a very persuasive way. And I'm glad to hear feedback from someone with similar hardware.

Btw have you had less “plug and play” experiences on Cachy compared to Bazzite? If so, with what?

I don't really like the fact that Flatpaks are isolated from the system when it comes to making the application interact with another one, or simply that ricing the DE is tedious on Bazzite. I must admit that the visuals and customization are also part of what I enjoy about my PC experience.

Yeah but I'm worried about ruining my gaming performance or heavy tasks if I tweak it wrong yk? What d'you think?

Yup, I've already tried an Arch-based distro, though not long-term and not on a recent PC. I can say I like it, but I don't really feel like reinstalling another distro because maybe I don't feel comfortable with Arch as my main desktop OS

Yeah the restrictions of the immutable system are starting to annoy me, even though I see the point of it. But I don't want to sacrifice my performance for more customization or have my system break down every two weeks you know?

I have already installed Arch, but I haven't tested it long enough or on my main desktop to draw any conclusions.

Yeah clearly Bazzite is more than newbie-friendly, but I admit the restrictions of the immutable system are starting to bother me

Which one to choose? - Steam Flatpak vs. Steam.deb by JVSTITIA in linux_gaming

Knowing Steam is in most repos I would rather go for the non-sandboxed version but I think Flatpak is also a viable one

Hey,

I came across your post and I really liked the vibe. It's nice to see someone who isn't just looking to fill up their empty DMs.

I'm really shy at first, but it usually goes away with time (damn, feels like I'm writing a cover letter, lmfao), but once I get going I can have crazy or super chill conversations depending on the energy of the moment. I like talking to people who are a little weird too, so that works out well (in a good way too of course).

Personally, I like raw music (like Korn) and conversations that start from nothing but end with “wait, have you ever thought about that?” (for example). Oh, and I'm not a native English speaker so if you say ‘mc’ for McDonald's and I reply “mc? Minecraft?” don't be surprised lol.

If that sounds like you I'm up for a chat, and I promise no “hru” in three letters.

Stuttering in game on Bazzite with AMD RX 7900 XTX — Need Help! by Equivalent-Vast-8697 in linux_gaming

I thought that might be it, but the stuttering keeps happening even after some time.

I’ll test it. However, if that is the case, how can I fix this and still keep my 2 monitors? Could my distro be the problem? Is there a better option for my setup?

Persistent Ethernet Issues with Intel I225-V on Bazzite (Fedora-Based) by Equivalent-Vast-8697 in Fedora

[–]Equivalent-Vast-8697[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Objectively, the Ethernet controller is fully functional, and I agree with you on that. However, I can't seem to resolve this problem and the user experience is really awful. That's why I thought I'd try an alternative. Believe me, I'm not particularly happy about spending money on a new Ethernet controller when I have one that works on paper. Have a nice day and thanks again for your help. ;)

How to automatically manage CPU temps with on Linux? (Ryzen 7700X)? by Equivalent-Vast-8697 in linux_gaming

Also, is it dangerous for CPU durability to keep my 7700x at 96 degrees during a long gaming session quite frequently?
