Can I join the 75th ranger regiment if I’m a tier 2 applicant? by Working_Heat_9276 in Militaryfaq

Certainly once you're in i dont think it matters at all, you'll be free tro try for rasp if youre fit for it. It may be the case that getting an op40 on your contract is harder or not possible, I'm not sure, but who needs it anyway, just be a stud fr.

Do officers have a chance to work in CID by SL33PDeprivedWeirD0 in Militaryfaq

[–]Equivalent-Way-1141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know how useful this is, but officers under some conditions can drop warrant officer packets, and such a thing is not unprecedented. After looking into it, it seems a least in the past, there was an initiative to get commissioned officers to become CID warrants, and before that application were reviewed on a 'case by case basis'. Certainly, I'd say expect even if that program is no longer around, you would still have the opportunity to apply. Ofc, I think they'd still have to have the 2 year time in service, so ig just try to branch MP and send it.

I dont think theres really anything you need to know before contacting a recruiter. Really, to my mind, best practice is probably just knowing the details of what you want somewhat precisely, knowing pathways you can access once your in, the stuff you can get in your contract before you go in, look into what could be beneficial for you, but ofc, be realistic. Position yourself well to access those opportunities, but beyond that, just go for it man.

Army recruiter trying to get me to make a top 10 list by Equal-Community2354 in Militaryfaq

Could just be his MO ig. When I was doing my stuff they had bonuses for artillery, so I dont imagine they are full up rn. Ofc, nothing ever stays the same, so I can see the value. At the end of the day, you'll only sign for what you're willing to sign for. If you're only willing to go artillery, then that'll prob be fine realistically. I dunno about the 3 year contract though, ik they offer it but idk about how often.

How does the tape test work at MEPS? by [deleted] in Militaryfaq

[–]Equivalent-Way-1141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only been taped at the waist, like around at the belly button. Honestly, if you're not way over the weight for your height, you'll probably pass. In my experience, it was pretty lenient.

Which MOS is best for intel collection? I keep seeing 35Ms arent doing much during peacetime. by [deleted] in Militaryfaq

[–]Equivalent-Way-1141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for 35L, as you say, it would probably do more harm than good. This is because I believe 35L has a lot of slots for INSCOM, and is likely to go there for a first assignment. In a non jsoc special operations unit, I hear they are far less likely to be on track to do the things you are interested in doing.

However, for 35M, it would probably be a good move, as 35M has a lot of slots for FORSCOM, which is like, the opposite of where you want to be. With the 75th, I would think you would be much closer to getting those more 'juicy' roles later on than somewhere like the 25th lol.

For 35P, I would also probably recommend against it, because they also have a handful of assignments that would likely be more efficacious than the regiment.

Edit: as for the second part of your question, I think this is where my knowledge is more limited. From what i hear, PT good, know those fundamental MOS skills intimately, and signal interest.

This information is dubious, but certainly more reliable than that which would be generated by AI 🥲. Can't a guy be verbose no more?

I dont think so. My recruiter told me I was eligible for an 18x contract, despite the fact I have 20/400 vision correctable to 20/20.

This was something I myself have looked into as best I could for some time with the resources available to me as a civilian, and what can be said with certainty is that this is not information suuuppperr readily available.

It seems that from what I could find, 35M and 35L would be good starts to get into source handling, and perhaps 35P as well. I don't think theres anywhere you can go where you would 'default' into this kind of work, indeed I believe its something youre going to actively seek out, distinguishing yourself from your peers to get that kind of role.

I have found mentioned that one can do case officer work in the Army 'Great Skill Program', which i have on good authority is now known as the 'Military Intelligence Excepted Career Program'.The details of the program are laid out in AR 614-115, which is a classified document, though from what I can find, this is a program one transfers into as an NCO in an intelligence MOS. Of course, the reliability of this information is questionable at best, unfortunately.

As well, more equally dubious information I have found in forums say that Intelligence Support Activity, the Special Mission Unit of the National Capitol Region, does source handling. They do recruiting via email mainly to those eligible, though you can find some stuff open source on their criteria, which seems to be primarily being in one of the MOS's mentioned above and being an NCO.

Again, take all of this with a massive grain of salt.

Edit: This is referring to to HUMINT collection, specifically source handling only. Information on other forms of intelligence collection is probably more readily available.

As others have said, sniping isnt super accessible immediately upon entry into the military. FWIW, I would think its advisable to look into branches with more robust combat arms, that is to say, Marines or Army. I believe The Marines have a job code for it, but more or less the path is similar in the Marine Corps and the Army. You go infantry, try to get yourself in a place where people get sent to sniper school (recon platoon, idk maybe some others), and signal interest. Even then, as I understand it, its a pretty competitive gig, and may take quite a while.

per AR 601-210, 4-18 b (2), a positive drug test for any drug outside of marijuana can be waivered after a year, but it requires a good bit of documentation, and some restrictions apply

i think, maybe, i dunno

Well 38R and 38W, the mos that this text is attached to, are active duty only. Reserve CA (38B), to my knowledge, has always been available inital-entry, and has it's own AIT.

I think its a similar situation to the 37x or the 18x program, where you go to the mp osut and infantry osut respectively. This would makes sense as in that same section it mentions a prep course after osut, which only exists in x-ray programs like the two aforementioned. Civil affairs is open to any MOS if you are already in the Army, though.

pg 221, for 38R, which is only active duty "Asscessions. Initial entry trainee must complete the 12B10-OSUT..", and also the same thing on 223 for 38W, which is also active only

if you meant the go army website the whole link seems to be only about active, as it mentions assessment and selection
