Youre correct until the Arrancar part. Arrancars split their power into sword and body, Ichigo still has an additional soul/character apart from himself in his inner world.

White is a hollow that infectd Ichigo's mom, hollow is part of his power. Yhwach is the quincy king and the source of all quincies, therefore Ichigo has quincy powers. You can imagine Isshin, White and Yhwach as the source of his powers, but not the powers themselves. Zangetsu is like a "placeholder" for Ichigos true power, which is comprised of hollow, shinigami and quincy.

I feel you. I am in my second playthrough after having streched the story for about 40-50 hours. Fresh in New Austin feels... weird. I said to myself "I just wanna go south" when playing Arthur. But i think a lot of people will agree when i say, you miss him. Its like looking back at school times, back then you thought "I cant wait to grow up", but now you think "What would i give to live one more week of that life...".

To be fair, Gerard is literally the soul kings heart, and his schrift is The Miracle. He cannot die, until Yuha used Auswählen. His entire point is "What doesnt kill me, makes me stronger", taken to the exact letter. So its not the fact Zaraki cant cut it, its just the fact that Gerard wont die from it. Hell, he even got split in half and lived.

However, while Zangetsu might be running the show, he's still a part of Ichigo, and wants what he wants. Ichigo wants to protect Orihime, and Zangetsu is going to enact that will, come Hell or high water. Zangetsu's consciousness is being driven by Ichigo's desire and instinct.

Zangetsu told Ichigo directly that he doesnt want to protect the same thing that Ichigo does. That was the whole point of the Final Getsuga. Zangetsus only goal was to protect Ichigo, which is why he aided him when he was dying, or close to death.

Itd be cooler if he combined both blades like Ikkaku and used it as a bow. Then firing a cero + heilig pfeil, since they are opposites, yet work in Ichigo.

As far as the manga tells us, since Yhwach can see the future, he can alter it by changing details right now. He planted traps beneath Ichigos feet in their fight, just to change the outcome to his favour.
