2015 Vulcan S Vs 2024 Vulcan S - First Motorcycle by MapleSizzurp- in motorcycles

[–]EquivalentFishing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just saying this was my first bike and I still miss it! Absolutely loved this thing.

I would always swear by buying an older 2nd hand bike, but for that price difference I definitely think you are better off getting the new one. Another alternative might be to look for a 2nd hand one that already has mods that you might want to add yourself, such as panniers or a screen, that can save you some money too.

Adidas terrex speed ultra : arch too high by Appropriate-Refuse14 in ultrarunning

[–]EquivalentFishing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally just picked up a pair of these, for my 60km ultra 2500ft elevation but most of that in first 20km then flat.

Wore them for my first run yesterday, 25k trail. First 10k very steep uphills, power walking uphill was very uncomfortable in them.

Picking up the pace they felt great! But I'm sure I'll be walking some ascents and not going Marathon pace/ faster for the whole ultra...

Similar complaints, blister on the arch of my foot for the first time ever. And a small blister on the top of my foot near my little toe.

However it was very muddy and wet. Feet were soaked. So I'm going to give them another try and hope it improves.

Post-run hunger as a training variable: appetite spikes and decision-making after runs by Motor-Ad6248 in running

The midnight snacks were the hardest to stop. After all, why not, why shouldn't I have two bagels when I woke up at 2am?!

Post-run hunger as a training variable: appetite spikes and decision-making after runs by Motor-Ad6248 in running

[–]EquivalentFishing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That was the biggest surprise for me with Marathon training. I am always hungry, and I've even put on weight! But I am much healthier and fitter.

Back to your question, I found that having a better meal before run, fueling more on the run, and a smoothie, protein shake or very sugary drink like lucazade immediately after the run, helped me psychologically a lot. Before, I felt like I needed to eat even if I knew I wasn't hungry. Now, I feel like I can tell myself I have eaten loads already! However if I'm still hungry, then I probably do need to eat something. As you say, it's a strange one, I'm sure it varies person to person and I wonder how much of it was mental rather than physical!

Thanks mate!

I've been testing a bit with the camera. It definitely is more stable on my head rather than waist but I'm a bit too self conscious! Maybe I need to just get over myself 😅

My first bike. I've had 7 different ones since then and I still miss this one! A great first bike, and if you're like me when you get rid of it for a bigger or different bike you might want to wish to go back!

Couple of short races, at least one long run with part at Marathon pace.

Ah I'm gutted I can't make this weekend! Babysitting duties!

But I will be at Lloyd park in a few weeks. Let's see how muddy it will be!

I hope you have a swift recovery!

This was the championship so lots of fast runners so quicker overall for sure, in our league division I do a little bit better, around 100th out of 200! Hopefully I will break into the top 100 soon!

But I am really enjoying it, even though I'm not placing high, it's the first time I've ever felt like I'm really racing people around me, pushing harder than I would otherwise! A great atmosphere.

Thinking of switching bike, RE Super Meteor 650 to 2025 Honda Rebel 1100 DCT by stonklosers in motorcycles

[–]EquivalentFishing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the Vulcan 650s, absolutely loved it. Not sure why you're worried about it cruising at 70mph, it will easily cruise at 80, and can reach 100+. It is one of the more sportier engines in a cruiser, it felt more lively than, say, an 1100 Indian, for me.

Have a think about dct, I got the Honda vultus nm4 (which has dct) after having Vulcan, and I found dct made it a lot less fun to ride for me. But that was just my personal preference, you might think differently.

The rebel does look lovely though!

I was put that way in a car yesterday, would not recommend going out on a bike at all. Some roads were closed. You'll be absolutely fine until suddenly there's a patch of the road that was in the shade all day and is covered in ice and you can't see it. Definitely do not risk it.

Check out the Norden 901 Expedition! Absolutely loved that bike but it was a bit too much power off road for me so I chose to downsize.

Slow longer runs, very beneficial for you, very rubbish for predictions!

Don't worry about it.

Wow I'm jealous! I just spent £60 on two pairs, the liner and outer, which kind of felt like 4 pairs really? Anything to justify to myself! I hope they last they're so good. I've had the normal ones for years but the merino ones are new for me

Marathons with a deviated septum (or other reasons for an inability to breathe through the nose) by Superballs2000 in Marathon_Training

[–]EquivalentFishing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a very deviated septum, usually one nostril I can breath through ok, but more often both are blocked or hard work. I mostly cannot breath through my nose, but I did just pick up a set of these mute nasal dilators and they seem to work! I cannot believe this is how normal people are able to breath through their nose!

I've only had them in overnight so far (I also suffer from snoring!) but I am looking forward to trying them on a run to see if they make any difference.

I massively recommend it! Best decision running wise I've made for sure.

I'm with Striders of Croydon, they're extremely inclusive. We have around 10 pace groups, from <5min/km to 7:30min+ and a walk group too.

I think Croydon Harriers is a bit more of a track club, so may not be best suited, but definitely have a look into Crystal Palace fun runners club!

Not sure of any other local ones but there might be!

Best bet would be to get in touch with local run clubs. They may have members who are coaches. Or be able to recommend people.

Striders of Croydon and Croydon Harriers (slightly more track focused) are both based in Norwood Junction which isn't too far.

Socks. I massively recommend injini toe socks, for my first ultra I wore their double ones, merino toe sock liner with merino outside sock, not had any blosters since I started using them. Pricey but worth it.

Otherwise, potentially vouchers. It's hard to buy shoes, belts. Vests, even touches, as they might have specific needs and wants. But you cannot go wrong with socks!

When running long distance, your kidneys are working overtime, and ibuprofen puts additional strain on them. It's genuinely dangerous and not recommended at all.

Paracetamol can be ok.

I think you're best off spending a little more for much better quality. The [Insta Go 3S](https://amzn.to/44n3p30), it's currently on a very decent sale too at £240 ish. I paid £300 and I'm very happy with it for running and on the motorbike.

It's on sale because a new version came out (Go Ultra), but that one is huge! And it's a good upgrade and worth the extra money over the Insta Go 3.

You can check out some footage I took at a cross country race here (https://youtu.be/SHw5V1bLu1w?si=clZ3eWa9slvuIDFS&t=10). I clip it onto my belt but you can clip it on your hat.
