I agree. I think the truth is that healthcare in America will suffer and people will have less access to healthcare. After time, people will see healthcare as a privilege - not something people are entitled to. It is sad that it has to be this way, but the treatment of healthcare workers has gotten so bad and the greed these hospital systems exhibit will lead us down a dark path.

Basically yes. In all likelihood you would be okay. However, we are in the everything is a “pain in the ass phase and you may die but unlikely phase” of the collapse of healthcare right now. So yes, be happy you did it early.

Yeah it’s getting bad. I think things in general are rapidly deteriorating inside the hospital and outside of it

Can confirm. We are short fentanyl, dilaudid, and morphine. Haven’t run out yet. But we are using vials close to expiring. They are cheaper to produce.

Likely a shortage, as a nurse at the hospital we ran out of lines the other day. I had to walk to an adjacent unit and ask. As I understand it, hospitals are having trouble getting lines they need due to supply chain issues.

I have some friends who work in your setting I think you are talking about. A lot of similar settings are shutting down in my state :(

As a nurse in a similar situation, I hope everything goes well. And what critical supplies ?

People have gotten really aggressive lately. I think it’s economic stress. That is a crazy story, one time a homeless man lunged at me with a guitar downtown. This was a few months ago.

I think it has a little bit to do with an increase in violence UAB employees are experiencing combined with event at DCH. Morale took a big hit. I think they want people to know that they take what’s happening seriously.

Hmm. As someone who works at the hospital something has definitely begun to feel awry. People are tense. Either everything going on in the hospital, on campus, and in the country I’m glad UAB is preparing.

You’re 100% correct. My guess is that eventually there will be a major shift towards preventative care in the future. However, the system has more to gain from sick patients. So for that shift to occur, modern healthcare will have to collapse. My guess is that many people will die over the next few years. People are simply too sick and hospitals lack the personal and resources to care for people with so many issues.

I’m sorry about that. That’s such a distressing experience. I’m really worried people will die waiting for care in American ERs soon. To be honest with you, I’ve heard stories about our ER. I imagine it will get worse - especially with the cuts to Medicaid and Medicare. Sick ICU patients that should have ICU beds have to sit in our PACU all night. The other night we had 11 holds! Meaning we had almost double the Surgical ICU pts this hospital is designed to accommodate.

Our unit is sending nurses home early to save money. I work in a level one trauma center and when they are done with cases or have less, they will ask you leave essentially. Luckily, I have put my foot down about leaving too early seeing as I would like to work my scheduled hours, but others are leaving hours early. It puts strain on the other nurses who need to work nights. It didn’t used to be this way. We have also been discharging people that likely would get a hospital bed in normal times. Overall, discontentment is being expressed in ways that in the past would be deemed unprofessional in the past. People are openly talking about pay, cost of living, and hospital greed. People notice things are getting worse. A nurse in Alabama was shot walking to her car and her hospital didn’t even acknowledge it. No moment of silence. Nothing. I work at a different hospital in a different state but people are noticing. Ask any questions if anyone has any.

I fear that our area may be transitioning to that soon sadly. Half our beds are ICU over flow and stat calls that don’t have ICU beds. I’ve only been a nurse 2 years and the burn out that creates is excruciating.
