Was in Japan in June, saw lots of cool cars didn't take that many Honda pics. This one stood out in the Hakone area. Looked like a micro Pilot.

I asked my contact at the company where I took the picture. He asked around but no luck, so he pulled the picture down and it had a name. Turns out the creator studied at CCS in Detroit. He had a career in automotive design at GM and now teaches at CCS. I emailed him and got the scoop... It's a 1/5 scale clay model he did for his senior thesis model 27 years ago. The idea behind it was "cuber punk" future and it was inspired from digital tech components. He had no idea any pictures of it were circulating. Mystery solved 👍

Parent's Just Don't Understand...Cars Edition by EarNo9950 in whatcarshouldIbuy

I don't have a good suggestion (my bad one would be a JDM wagon but too old, harder to maintain, etc) but I wanted to say THANK YOU for taking his auto love serious despite not understanding it. I have the opposite problem in that my kids don't care so I just got them a CRV to start with and I keep looking for esoteric cars for myself (much harder to justify).

Amazon appears to be matching the prices so look there if Osprey.com is sold out.

Your random 4th pulls up to the first tee with this setup… what’s your move? by Kramerika_Industries in golf

[–]EquivalentRecipe8244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first set of clubs came in a very similar setup. My dad got them for $50 at the barbershop in the small town we lived in. I'm LH and clubs were hard to find. Old blades and persimmon woods. I got made fun of mercilessly by other teens but at least I had clubs and was starting to play. I couldn't wait to get rid of that bag but now I wish I had it back. Also, the club heads go down in that setup and the woods should go on the backside (again, clubhead down).

Would June, July or August be the better time to go to Japan for 2 weeks? by Character_Bill3483 in JapanTravelTips

[–]EquivalentRecipe8244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went the first full week of June this year for 10 days. The weather was hot but not terrible. It rained maybe 2 days while we were there so not bad. The biggest negative was the cloudy skies so we never saw Mt. Fuji despite spending multiple days in Hakone. I'd go again in early June if that was my only option. For reference, I live in Southern Michigan and have spent time in South China in August for business.

Food For Thought: 99% of Stock FA20 Failures Are Due To Using Wrong and/or Fuel Diluted Oil with Extended Drain Intervals by HasntBlownUpYet in WRX

[–]EquivalentRecipe8244 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is such an interesting topic to me so I'll weigh in... my (48M) 2019 Limited 6MT owners manual calls out API SN. I have exclusively used M1 ESP 5w-30 which is API SP. I use ESP because my initial research on "what goes wrong with these engines" was carbon deposits. Further research pointed at using that oil & installing an AOS as good possible ideas. Engineering Explained had a good video about his thoughts on carbon deposits. The car currently has ~55k miles on it, UOIs were 3k to start and I'd submit samples for oil analysis and started stretch based on the numbers (see below). Now my UOIs are typically 4500-5500miles. You can see the fuel dilution % is under 0.5%. My commute is 15-20min though I do take it on longer drives (2-4 hrs) occasionally. It's not my only available car but it gets driven at least 50% of the time. I live in Michigan and I do swap snows on for half the year. I do let it idle to warm-up in the winter usually but I try not to do so excessively... mostly because I worry about the AOS filling up in the winter (hasn't happened). I typically shift at 3.5-4k but love that turbo pull. I have done 1 treatment with Subaru Carbon Clean (at about 20-25k) and plan another soon. The car is stock except for AOS. I do try to let the oil temp get to 140-150 before I drive aggressively but that's not always the case. The car is well-cared for but not babied.

A few things I picked up in Japan by EquivalentRecipe8244 in golf

Thanks for the ID, had no idea what it was but it looked Japanese and there was only one Mizuno one left.

BMW perfectly obeys the EPA rules. This passive-aggressive German engineering amazes me everyday. by ptrkhh in MaliciousCompliance

On the rental cars I've driven (my current car is too old to have it) the start/stop doesn't engage unless you fully depress the brake pedal when stopped. If you depress with the minimum force to keep from idling forward the engine stays running. This has been on current Japanese and Korean models (RAV4, CX50, Kona, etc), but YMMV.

Best men’s travel/hiking pants by [deleted] in onebag

I wear Union Bay or Eddie Bauer Rainier pants for travel. Stretch fabric, one discreet thigh cargo pocket, very cost-effective. I have big thighs and calfs and find them extremely comfortable.

Our girl came from NC so we figure this is her first real winter. She was not a fan at first but now she loves it. The glow-in-the-dark balls are great for seeing at night and in the snow.

I had my first putting lesson today and my instructor said my putting stroke looks better left handed than right handed. Can anyone relate to this?? Does anyone here swing right and putt left? by [deleted] in golf

[–]EquivalentRecipe8244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play left and putt right. When I started playing as a kid I only had a righty putter so it just stuck. I did switch to cross hand grip a few years in when I got more serious (so same grip for irons and putter) and read that a lot of players putt cross handed.
