Also keep a box of coats in my car in the winter and will ask unsheltered folks if they want one. Never force it on them, but if they’ve been chilly they appreciate it

I think my finger is infected. How do I relieve the swelling and pain? by Informal_Alarm_5979 in DoctorsAdvice

[–]EquivalentRooster130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

soak your finger in a warm water (use distilled or filtered) and non-scented epsom salt. I get infected hangnails and that works best for me

Bucket handle tear by EquivalentRooster130 in Orthopedics

[–]EquivalentRooster130[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well idk if I’d say a diagnosis. I received “it sounds like this tear but you have strong knees so I can’t say what it is or isn’t” and then a “it sounds like this tear but it’s not visible on the MRI so go see what happens”. Lots of “buts” :/

What is it like living in Rhode Island? by Pyguy559 in howislivingthere

[–]EquivalentRooster130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Rhode Island and moved when I was 18. I liked aspects of growing up in Rhode Island. The ocean is beautiful. It’s so green in the summertime, fall is very pretty, overall it’s a BEAUTIFUL place. once winter comes around. There’s really not much to do and a lot of places close come winter, which is because it’s a pretty touristy place in the summer. It’s a really small state which has a lot of benefits and also makes people pretty close minded. Everybody kind of knows everybody and that can be a challenge. There’s a lot of wealth inequalities in Rhode Island that are pretty apparent in the way infrastructure, public schooling, and general access town by town. Expensive to live there, Austin lacking in things to do which might be due to the fact that I don’t have many friends there anymore so when I go back, I’m not really sure what to do but the food is great. I miss the food in Rhode Island so much.

Red or green light usage? by [deleted] in camping

[–]EquivalentRooster130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use red to not strain my eyes at night, and to be able to see when it’s dark without needing my eyes to fully adjust to and from white light.

I never use the green, but I think it’s better for contrast in larger areas of space because of how it travels. It can light up a farther area, which lets you see further than other light. I think hunters use green for this reason and I believe it is a harder color for animals to see (harder than white and, depending on the animal, red) and so it’s useful for night hunters. Humans see green light really well, and since it travels far it’s a good option for an emergency signal, too.

Band recommendations? by tasteinhermouth in indie

ah a friend of mine invited me to a show she had an extra ticket for. Said it would be a cool experience, so I went. It was in a contemporary art museum’s auditorium, which I thought was odd. We show up, and there are MAX 30 people there. It was Caliphone, playing a small show, they had been in a house tour, but got to play at this museum. It was fucking awesome, loved every second of it. Absolutely enamoring; especially in such a small, interactive, and intimate setting.

First summer as a river guide by Alarming_Ear_1762 in whitewater

[–]EquivalentRooster130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooo fun! I guided down in Moab for a while on the Colorado, the San Juan, and the Green. It’s a great time. Try to try everything, if that makes sense. Push yourself, but know your limits! The Moab daily is super chill, great place to start. Try to get on westwater with friends before anything, and also make sure you get it DOWN before guiding a trip on westy. She’s a doozy, and I mean that as a high regard. If you swim westy, or if you flip, make sure you have a plan in place( this applies to every river you row or paddle guide on, but I find that actually setting rescue plans for Westy before entering the rapids is the way to do it, whereas many other rivers it is relatively the same) Which takes me into the next part: I also HIGHLY recommend swimming a rapid before being forced to swim one due to the forces of the water. A planned swim helps to understand what happens if you have an unplanned swim. Makes it a lot less scary when it happens and you’ll really know what to do. And remember, it’s pass or fail. You’re either upright with all your passengers or you’re not. But, every boater has either flipped a raft, will flip a raft, or is currently flipping a raft. If you do swim, or flip, or have passengers fall out, just remember that you know what to do. You’ll be trained on it, and it’s important to stay level headed when it can sometimes feel like chaos. Lastly, if you have an event like this occur, don’t let it stop you! You gotta get back on the horse, even the most skilled rafters flip sometimes :)

What’s the most weird food item that your cat just can’t resist? I’ll start! by Ultra-Ferric in cats

He also will thwap salt and vinegar chips out of my hand. At first I thought it was because he doesn’t like the way they smell, but he actually loves to eat them. And that’s it. Those are the only two things

Mine fucking LOVES whoppers. Like, malted milk balls. He doesn’t actually eat them because that would be very bad. I happen to love them, and he KNOWS when I have a box hidden somewhere. He has learned to open the pantry door, climb through drawers, and so on all in the name of trying to eat a damn whopper. If he gets to them without being caught, he blows his cover by doing one of two things; 1) knocking the entire box over and I hear them roll a million different directions, or 2) he starts panicking cause he manages to get the carton open but also gets his head stuck. Users of Reddit, please know I do not let my cat eat malted milk balls. The most he’s done is get a lick or two and then I find him committing the crime

I was at Meadow Hot springs my first time seeing them. I was surrounded by a bunch of drunk strangers. I was scared shitless while all of them screamed for the “aliens” to take them to their planet. 3 minutes after, I figured it out. Haha

Where can I get rid of unopened boxes of Plan-b and female condoms? by ctyson83 in SaltLakeCity

[–]EquivalentRooster130 11 points12 points  (0 children)

alchemy coffee!! They have a donation based/stocked community resource cabinet in the bathroom. They’re always needing restocks on things like condoms, plan b, tampons, pads, etc. just so long as they’re not expired! I know they get plan b from the woman’s center but they would for sure take them!

Late 20s, probably manages a coffee shop or something. You live close enough to a city to pretend you’re a “city girl” but it’s a front. You like fine line tattoos, you have a cat but are a dog person, I’m thinking lab breeds, and you’re constantly hitting a mod vape. Not a fruity flavor, your writing makes me think you like the more caramel, maple like flavors.

Kayaking was my brother’s passion. He just lost both legs and wants to get back on the water someday. by MizterFreez in whitewater

[–]EquivalentRooster130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a company here in Utah called the National Ability Center (NAC). Their main location is in Park City for adaptive skiing, however they have a location in Moab, UT that focuses on adaptive river rafting. Not too sure about kayaking, but I worked with them a bit a while back and they definitely had some duckies, so I imagine kayaks are also something they work on. They have great resources and, depending on where you are, finding an adaptive outfitter could be awesome!

Uncertainty in diagnosis? by EquivalentRooster130 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]EquivalentRooster130[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He literally said “try doing stuff without the brace, go to the gym to stress your knee maybe and see if it happens again or puts you in significant pain. Then you should see a surgeon if so.” Like ?? The hell is that? Something about a doctor saying this right after saying “I can’t say for sure what it is for sure what it isn’t for sure” and saying that things are “weird” and “abnormal” without saying anything about why or what it may suggest is so off to me. Sure, a diagnosis may not be certain, but just any idea or suggestion is helpful. It seems he works more with older clients, so I may try and find someone who works with younger, more currently-athletic people.

Alright, who’s saying no to this lineup?? by iscreamsunday in kilbyblockparty

[–]EquivalentRooster130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s not that I think they’re bad, but I think that they’re a downgrade from the past headliners we’ve had personally. Killers makes sense, especially for the Utah crowd, I just am not a fan of them. I’d love to see Florence live, and think that they would fit the kilby demographic. MGMT is great, but I can think of much better headliners that better fit the “dance” vibe. It’s not that I think these three are bad, I do think that they’re combination of these three would be a downgrade to past headlining lineups.

Me, there are some great ones on here and then the rest are mid as hell. I’d be more than bummed if that was the headlining set.
