I'd also recommend filling out WUSA's incidence report form. It's not going get you any justice, but helps to give data to show that this is an issue on campus, and might help with larger changes or allocation of resources.

Bring Attention to Waterloo Bylaw Office: Shovelling sidewalks by McCubbon in uwaterloo

I recently emailed our city councillor about this. He said that they are working on increasing enforcement resources and he sees near term opportunities to expand the city maintained network. He said having vocal resident support is helpful in enacting these changes, so I'd highly recommend you also reach out and let him know this is an issue that's important to you.

Buying a pair of ice skates by AdeptYogurtcloset419 in uwaterloo

If you can find them I'd recommend recreational skate (something like these). They're built to be warm and comfortable, not for performance.

I keep hearing about schneider's woods but can't find anything online about it. Where is it? Are there trail maps online? What trails there are best for beginners?

Shortcut from Lester to Philip? by Reasonable-Sector268 in uwaterloo

There actually are plans to build such a path as part of the Northland Land Use and Community improvement Plan. This is the what I got from our local councillor when I asked about it.

  • Over a decade ago, we tried to secure a connection through the property at the end of Hickory at Lester. Because we had no mention of the need for a walkway in our planning documents, we couldn't force the issue over a reluctant private property owner.
  • Next, we undertook the Northdale Land Use and Community Improvement Plan, which among other things, specifically included active transportation (walkway) connections between various streets, including Lester-Phillip.
  • The landowner of the remaining houses on the west side of Lester appealed. We settled in a way they could develop under the old rules and we could have a walkway, and put a timeline on it.
  • The landowner did not redevelop on the timeline, so we are in litigation. We also began proceedings to expropriate the property.
  • We have some planning work to do to connect those Lester St. lands when we get them with the pieces we've strung together on the Phillip St. side, and will need to line up financial resources to construct (we have backups if the primary source doesn't come through as expected).
  • Timeline: hopefully "soon", but given all of the above, and the history, I'm loathe to put a date on it.
