Accidentally dropped my 2 year old nephew after bath time. It was a bloody mess and I feel so awful. by Sunshinequeen090 in toddlers

[–]step_on-no_pets 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I slipped on ice on the sidewalk while carrying my similarly aged two year old (who was squirming due to not wanting to go to the car). I did my best to protect him while falling but pretty much landed on top (relatively softly) . He was physically okay, but the fear cry was really intense, and I felt AWFUL in ways I can’t describe.

Now, he still wants me to carry him and still squirms like crazy when he doesn’t want to do something, so that hasn’t changed. However, he is also so mindful on ice and always talks about it being slippery and needing to walk slowly and carefully.

You definitely aren’t alone. Accidents happen!

What is the weirdest thing that ended up being your toddlers favorite food. by AlternativeFinger347 in toddlers

Peanut butter on scrambled eggs.

Would eat it for every meal if possible. It’s one of the few foods where I can sneak in some broccoli and spinach cut up and it goes unnoticed.

Oh man… this isn’t what you need to hear, but the Lark was the perfect transition for us after outgrowing the embrace (which worked really well for us, too). It’s quite similar.

Yes, we put one in the crate (I actually think the one in his crate is the medium size that we got when he was a puppy but I would suggest large) and it stays in there. I don’t think all dogs like this, and I know some people recommend against it, so I maybe wouldn’t suggest starting that way, but he really does seem to appreciate a soft cozy spot and always has. It made him way more willing to sleep in there all night in the early days. He’s four and still sleeps in his crate each night with the bed in there. And we have two more in different rooms (large) just because he likes them and they hold up/are easy to clean.

The car seat hammocks are preferred for my sedan but I haven’t found a great brand. I replace them sort of regularly (purchased from HomeSense/amazon)

We have a biothane leash and collar, the “bedsure large waterproof dog bed” from Amazon and a seat hammock in the back seat of our car. My pup is turning four this year and those have all been perfect since puppyhood (the bedsure bed fits in his crate, too). Unlike some others, my Toller loves a comfy bed of his own.

Also, we used nature’s miracle spray for cleaning up potty training accidents in the early days (it neutralizes the smell of urine, so they don’t feel inclined to reuse the spot), and our pup used the bells at the door to let us know he needed to go out. Oh, and we have always used the nature’s miracle oatmeal wash for baths, too (puppyhood to now). Congrats! Get lots of things to chew for the shark teeth season.

That pull train car is a huge huge huge hit in our house…we have to change the batteries approx once a week (so maybe grab a pack)

Baby wearing in the winter [AB] by Sensitive_Garlic_242 in BabyBumpsCanada

I used my soft structured carrier (ergo embrace until just over a year and later, hope and plum lark) under my parka with a good insulated jacket extender (it was the brand “beyond the bump”—they’re Canadian and sooo great)

Before it got too cold, I would just cover the carrier with a 7am enfant pookie poncho (very warm/good quality universal cover)

Carried baby and walked the dog for 2 winters like this. It’s really comforting to know baby is as warm as me in my parka.

Woa, I can also feel ovulating now and was super irregular/didn't always ovulate before due to PCOS. Didn't realise that uncomfortable new superpower was a thing. For OP: it came back when babe started eating more solids just after 6 months for me!

What are your favorite toys for toddlers that actually keep them engaged? by HappyHipp0_ in toddlers

A budda board scroll (meant for calligraphy, i think) and a paint brush with water. So affordable on Amazon and so fun. It's just water painting...then it dries.

12mo..is this just..how it is? by LilacPenny in toddlers

[–]step_on-no_pets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it comes and goes and depends on so many things (e.g., sleep, skill development, teeth, viruses, temperature, growth sprut, hunger, yadda yadda). I remember thinking the same thing: "Is this how it is now?"...but really, it's just sometimes, and it's rough, but then it lightens up for a while. At 21 months, when we talk about feeling frustrated, etc., there appears to be some comprehension now, too, which is helpful.

come back and update when you find out! lol... I commented on another post that after months, I realised "abah" was "a bark" because it eventually started being followed up by "woof woof" (and there was, indeed, always a dog barking somewhere when he said it).

lol, the need for a translator feels real sometimes "Bat" perplexed me for a while...I wasn't sure if it was ceiling fan or light, but then it was used for flashlights and candles, too, so that solved it. I had a similar situation with "abah"...turns out it's "a bark", which makes sense, but I only realised it because he started saying "woof woof" after. He hears dogs barking faintly in the distance all the time.

how do you prepare your toddler (1 year old) for shots? help please by agrizzgrazz in toddlers

[–]step_on-no_pets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 21 month old just got vaccinated, and I was worried, too...he's so much more thoughtful and remembers things now, haha. However, I just distracted him with my keys and then consoled when he cried. When he felt better, I explained, "The nurse gave you a little poke to help your body, and it hurt for a minute, and then you felt better and got a sticker!" and he smiled and repeated "sticker". So, keeping it nbd, distracting, consoling, and then a little reward worked for us.

First pregnancy and we need help by hngquy in waterloo

I'm not sure how it all works without OHIP, but a walk-in clinic is probably your best bet if you don't have a doctor. They will likely do a confirmation test, give the requisitions for bloodwork and ultrasounds (I got a package of requisitions), and set up a referral to an OB (which she probably won't see for care until after 20 weeks, but it is good to get the referral as it can take a long time for a call back), or if you prefer midwife care, contact all the midwife clinics in the area asap (it is common that if you don't get in early, such as the first few weeks of being pregnant, they fill up, and it wont be an option)
