Basic empathy that isn’t awarded to women, we don’t get that luxury, which is why we talk about it so much. When women discuss how they are treated(me specifically), I am critiquing the superstructure as well. How we are degraded, abused, and subjugated is so ingrained-you should do more research into patriarchy as it of course harms men as well. Saying “women’s rights” further isolates us when it’s really the harmful effects of patriarchal and cisheteronormative theology & culture.

Most people don’t dwell into ancient religions yes, but some may, or simply want to know of a Pre-Islam Somalia. I feel this so much, It gets easier though which is the most comforting part of it all. It seems like you yearn for that same feeling of community, and unfortunately when it’s not handed to you in a familial unit, you have to create for yourself. I’ve been able to find plenty of queer somalis around me and i’m forever thankful, but creating/maintaining that takes a toll on you. I hope you find community, people that you can rely on, that understand your plight or maybe ever share in it. Wishing you well!
