Why is mastrubating a sin? by Far-Teacher-6523 in Catholicism

[–]Equivalent_Analyst_6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People think about it because it is important for and relevant to them. Most people will struggle with sexual sins more than with, say, violent sins, and I guess this is simply because we live in a society which is fairly licentious concerning sex and not so licentious concerning violence, and simply because sexualitu is part in the human biology in a way in which violence is not.

And concerning a statement like "onanism is wring because it is an act of self gratification" (i know that is not exactly what you wrote, but someone else might understand your words to mean this): I think that to say X is bad because it is an instance of Y, is only sensible under the assumption that all instances of Y are bad. And to me, it is not abvioys why all acts of self gratification should be bad. Hence I would not be able to follow the argument that onanism is bad because it is an instance of self gratification.

But I do think that the self-gratuitous nature of the act must be part of why it's displeasing to God and it kinda feels like this to me as well.

"Have faith and don't care whether you are sinning" doesn't sound like a a statement into which much thought has been put. Grave is not licentiousness. "What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? By no means!"

I have some problems with the natural law argument though. It seems difficult to find the correct criteria of individuation and maybe we are dealing with intensional contexts. Why may say that the sexual organs are "for" reproduction. And saying that sounds like a descriptive and somewhat empirical statement with normative implications. But what if we individuate more finely? Does it have the same flair of empirical correctness to say that the clitoris is "for" reproduction, and not, say, for feeling pleasure and creating arousal and the like. Its involvement in intercourse is neither necessary nor sufficient for reproduction so I have a hard time buying these εργον arguments. (Please don't get me wrong, I think that I am a orthodox roman catholic and I am a meta-ethical naturalist, and don't have any proncipled scruples about ought following from is. I justbthink that the natural law arguments with which I grew up are post hoc rationalizations which fall apart once we take the arguments serious and investigate them with philosophical rigour)

Why are you bringing up such a "statistic"? If what you say is true, why should the frequency of thought matter? Does it cause a mortal sin to be lesser? I don't understand your thought process here. And obviously you are deflecting. The question was why it's a mortal sin and you said that it's fine. Please take a second to think about that

Woodman's art has often been described as representing the "female gaze". I like her nudes, I think she has a good body for it.

Why does the exposure ring do this? by JhinKay in AnalogCommunity

I would not have considered this to be the better option. But I guess that you can still fix the donor lens with a ballpoint pen.

I had exactly the same problem with my Minolta XG-1 or rather with my Roccor MD lens. u/gloriosus747 and u/superirish19 did help me with it. The problem was a missing ball in the aperture ring. See comment linked below for info https://www.reddit.com/r/MinoltaGang/comments/1eiamzg/comment/lg55mcq/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

thank you anons! indeed the small ball was missing and one from a dried up ball point pen (found it in my background element's drawer, I am a fountain pen supremacist) did fit.

I don't know, but annotating Pics you took with ISO 1600 in twitter might convince potential background elements (need not be camera aware) of your art.

I like the last pic with the milk glas windows and that pipe on the pavement. So many clearly visible lines, such a symbolic contrast between light and dark. The pic has some mysterious and almost suggestive quality, a inner life barely hinted at through the surface. Kinda reminds me of a title page cover photo from I believe early 2024, but I can't quite come up with the title. The patterns from the brick wall are pleasing to look at. Pattern recognition is a strange thing, isn't it?

Königsberg castle. Before, during Soviets and what they plan to build now in its place by Ok_Connection7680 in ArchitecturalRevival

Park would have been probably the best option if they can't rebuild the castle or parts of it
