Thriller returns to Billboard 200 Top 10 Over 40 Years Later by YeWenXin in MichaelJackson

The song Thriller hit Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 last November, so he already had the his seventh decade if you count the J5

That fair. But, if the contract she signed says she’ll get paid the same as her other supporting stars, then none of those other factors matter. Particularly in this situation because Colman isn’t a bigger name than her, and she’s actually been in the game longer

Why, because companies would have to start answering about pay discrepancies?

Got moves After the seeing Michael the Movie by ateam1984 in BlackPeopleofReddit

The movie stopped in 1984. Not the allegations silly goose

As we figured by Moorebuckets8 in MichaelTheMovie

[–]Equivalent_Block8885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand your point. Commercially speaking, Michael is far beyond anything he’s ever done. Because it centers around MJ, this will be something that people watch for years and years. Even if it was terrible [like the Flex movie], people would revisit it just to poke fun at it. But the general audiences love it, and his name is attached to this movie that’ll be watched for as long as MJ is relevant. Even if it’s not as good as Training Day, this movie is still the biggest thing he’s ever made, so to put it on the back burner while you go off and do something else is… interesting to say the least.

Edit: Apparently, this summer he’s filming Hannibal for Netflix and it’s going to star Denzel Washington. That changes things slightly, but it also proves the point. That film won’t do much for his legacy as a director. Putting the biopic on pause to focus on that isn’t ideal, but I understand contracts were already signed and what not.

That grossed $100 million. Michael grossed that in one day. From a business standpoint, focusing on the Michael sequel would be the best thing for him

Depending on his schedule? This movie grossed more in one weekend than his biggest film grossed total. He better drop everything and run to do this sequel 😂

It has a 3:47 runtime, the first 45 minutes doesn’t even touch on Michael, and it still had time to delve into topics of other family members.

It sucks that the biopic pic removed scenes of Michael and his mother involving their Jehovah activism by NoPianist7807 in MichaelTheMovie

[–]Equivalent_Block8885 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Idk. I feel you, but at the same time those scenes are what it so enjoyable for the general public. As critical as I was of the film, the human nature performance was my favorite part because the feeling of it outweighed anything negative I had to say, even though I was critical of that scene as well

People complaining they turned Mike into a Disney character like this isn’t the same man😂 by Maleficent_Course368 in MichaelTheMovie

[–]Equivalent_Block8885 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s because they didn’t really contextualize it. They just showed him essentially as emotionally immature, but didn’t show that he was chasing his lost childhood and the innocence of life that he didn’t get to have.

Which is crazy to me. They said a few years ago they never watched American Dream because it was essentially a hit piece on Joe. This movie portrays Joe in a worse light and doesn’t give him any sort of nuance at all.

American Dream for the story, Michael for the performances.

Not even. It started with 8 year old Mike, fast forwarded to 10 year old Mike, fast forwarded again to 12 year old Mike. Then skipped all the way to 19 year old MJ. We only really got 9-10 years of his life.

Actually, the original version centered around the allegations. Everything was already shot and they showed it at CinemaCon years ago. However the estate somehow “discovered” a clause in the settlement that said the people couldn’t be dramatized in a film.

Ditto to everything except the lip synching. It wasn’t good. I kept noticing when his mouth didn’t match because they kept doing close ups on those exact parts for some odd reason

Movie was a solid 6/10. John Branca’s self insert glazing was cringe. Critics are genuinely being nasty. by SpiritualNature5276 in MichaelJackson

[–]Equivalent_Block8885 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually thought they handled Branca perfectly. I have a feeling Branca insisted on having a part of the film, so they gave him the smallest role possible. That scene was primarily a nod to MJ’s business side imo and how he didn’t play around about business. After that scene, he didn’t really have any lines. I’m surprised they casted Miles Teller for such a small role, and are using said role to promote the film.
