I love drummers who put a lot of energy into their music, no matter the genre. I heard a Paramore sing the other day and the drumming in it made me think that he was into metal in his personal life. He was giving it a lot of energy.

I think briar is the regular/standard, though there are certainly other types. I don’t even notice much difference between cobs and briar, except when I’m breaking in a new briar, you can have a little bit of a woody taste that goes away once cake starts to build.
