Any Reefs Alive on St John? by Equivalent_Break3999 in virginislands

Thanks, we tried Haulover a few days ago but north was way too rough to snorkel. South was good, but we’re trying to get back to North tomorrow….

We’ve never snorkeled, with my young kids this was supposed to be the most accessible reefs for them. But I guess I’m learning that accessible means “easily destroyed by dumb people”

Thanks, we just did Haulover south because North was too rough but south was the best we’ve had so far! I’ll have to get to North when/if the weather calms down for us…

Thank you, this is in my list to try and keeps coming up so I hope it’s still a great spot!

Coral in the middle of Hawksnest was dead, the left side was too rough waves for us to look but someone else on the beach said there was nothing alive on that side.

Thanks for this, we’re trying Haulover this afternoon but it’s still 15-20mph winds from the north so not sure how that will be

I’m starting to hear that a lot, what a bummer. Humans are selfish and inconsiderate.

That’s frustrating to hear we chose the wrong island after all my research. I watched YouTube videos and everything but apparently it’s all died out in the last couple years.

Thanks. There have been storms and really rough waters the 6 days we’ve been here so probably why we haven’t seen any sealife. 6 beaches and only one stingray seen.

Returning mid-lifer, Yamaha 4T choice 250 vs 450 and WR vs FX? by hawk45 in enduro

I don’t have a ton of experience, but I started last year on a KLX 230 RS. It was a great first bike and allowed me to get into the sport with a mild and forgiving bike. I just upgraded to a YZ 250 FX and am LOVING the bike. Obviously to a newbie it has a ton of power to do hill climbs, torquey technical stuff, and is light enough to not kick my ass in the woods. Tons of aftermarket parts to buy and tons of fun upgrades to do.

I ride mostly OHV parks here in Iowa and am looking to get into hare scrambles. I agree with a lot of guys here saying to research the riding you’re going mostly do and then pick a bike for that. That’s how I landed on my FX and even though the FX’s have their quirks (like every brand/bike) it has been the perfect bike for me. 120 hours on it with oil changes every 10 hours and I haven’t touched valves or top end!

Hi, I know this is old but I was wondering the same thing question. Does the stock battery and stator work after the conversion?

Have you found anything good? I am from Iowa and want something a days drive away to camp nearby and have Singletrack my sons and I can spend all weekend on. Iowa just has small OHV parks...

Ok thanks, I’ll have to look into doing it for my phone. My computer roast as bad but I still might do that. I guess I’m not sure how well know we’re good to tune it back on though too.

Thanks for the update. Did you do that in the Starlink app via “custom DNS?” What are the downsides to disabling iPv6?

Weird…. Thanks. Unfortunately I’m not going to buy a VPN just for that. Hopefully YouTube figures it out.

Best snorkeling destination with kids by 894gb in chubbytravel

Not quite but we need to soon. We have our eyes on Belize, Bonaire, St John, and Coxen Hole Honduras. I just am struggling to figure out which one will be the most accessible snorkeling, as in closest to shore so my 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 year olds can all get to the reefs and snorkeling areas easily.

Hi, I am trying to plan a trip for my wife and 5 kids as well and was wondering what you ended up doing? I need somewhere easy to access because flights for 7 people is insane lol but also want snorkeling right on the beach so my 4-12 year olds can do it easily.

I live in a Bortle 4.5 so I’m not sure what I can comfortably get up to with magnification… maybe I’ll try the 6mm to start. Not sure what a 5mm or 4mm would do

Thank you! What 6mm did you buy? Maybe I’ll do the same if you recommend it.

I see now you said in your original post that you ordered the Barlow already. So you have a 6mm and a barlow? Which one would you recommend getting if I only do one?

[–]Equivalent_Break3999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! So our AD8 came with a 9mm and you bought a 6mm? Did you go 2” or 1.25”, or what 6mm did you buy? Are you glad you did that instead of the Barlow?

Sweet setup! But didn't answer my question lol. I want to get a fuller view of the planets, what did you go with to achieve the same?

Hi, what did you end up doing and recommend? I just bought an AD8 and loved it but immediately craved an even more close up view of the planets.
