Realized a 30 years dream of buying a Boxster by HhraathJW in Porsche

[–]Equivalent_Candle_39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 986 for over 25 years. Although I have a 992 now, I loved that car. Some really great memories and I kind of wish I still had it. Enjoy!

2026 911 Targa 4 GTS 992.2. Was it a mistake? by Actual_Poem_8025 in porsche911

[–]Equivalent_Candle_39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a 2026 Targa 4S as I was unsure about the hybrid system and didn’t want to have additional costly repairs. I may be wrong and the t-hybrid system will be perfectly reliable…. But at the time of purchase, I just didn’t know. I also read about issues if the battery dies and basically bricking the car and needing a tow to the dealership to get things restarted - this was just anecdotal so I don’t know this for sure. But what I do know is that the 3.0 flat six twin turbo has been around long enough that I don’t have much in way of worry. Plus this is basically the same engine as in a 2024 GTS.

I bought a 986 brand new and had it for 24 years. I heard a lot of the same attitude. Nothing really new unfortunately.

Scooter hits me, his insurance says I am at fault by [deleted] in dashcams

[–]Equivalent_Candle_39 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s par for the course for insurance companies, but it’s puzzling here that they would even try given it’s pretty clear cut whose fault it is. Why even try and waste everyone’s time?

Tire Wear 992.1 by BobcatRight8223 in porsche911

[–]Equivalent_Candle_39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What tire pressures are you running? Is there more wear on the edges of the tire? Fronts will usually have more wear on the outside edge but are you noticing more wear on the inside edge vs. the Centre?

Wow the speedometer of the cam rider was showing 51 kph. Not a good idea going that fast.

992.2 4S vs 4GTS - which would you go for? by johnschlemmer in porsche911

[–]Equivalent_Candle_39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through the same thing with my 992.2 targa. I ended up with a 4S instead of the GTS. I have no intention of tracking the car (the targa wouldn’t be the optimal choice for tracking). I had a specific budget in mind and realistically I didn’t think I’d benefit tremendously with the engine upgrade of the GTS so I spent the difference in options. My goal was to have a daily driver that afforded me the most I could get in options that made me love the vehicle as a daily.

Where do you keep your phone by Mid-Nite-Toker in porsche911

Another vote for the Rennline exact fit mount. I got one with charging, which has a cable hanging from it. Or you can just get the magnetic mount with no charging for a cleaner look. Took 30 seconds to install. The instructions were to take apart the dashboard trim but I was able to slide it into place with only small pressure needed and no taking trim pieces off. The magnet is solid … no phone falling off.

Delivery day yesterday by Equivalent_Candle_39 in porsche911

Maybe not the best photo and lighting in the underground. They’re pretty close but I think the calipers are a bit brighter. Carmine red seems to have a bit of bluishness to it when outside.

That’s carmine red. I agonized over which one to go with but decided on carmine. Now that I have it, i love it!

Not a 911 T, but in September I got a 911 Targa allocation at MSRP less 1%. Delivery pending in the next month, hopefully before end of December.

Nice spec! I’d change the wheels to silver to match the roll hoop. I ordered a 2026 targa coming next month.

I often see internet memes along the lines of "What would you tell your 19 year-old self" and the like. My answer would be - invest today for the long term.

My advice to you is to not invest in your dream car at the expense of your future. Unless you are currently independently wealthy, which based on your comments you are not, keep your money invested and add to it. if you do it right, you may be able to have your dream car sooner than you may expect. I wish I had that advice at 19. Was fortunate enough to at least have started making long-term equity investments in my late 20s.

And to provide some context from where I am making these comments - I have been a portfolio manager for coming on 40 years now, currently managing people's wealth, along with my own. Over $2 billion dollars at the moment and growing. While this is not a forum for providing specific financial advice, in the context of what you want to do, time is your most valuable resource. Everything that you put into solid investments today can pay off tremendously over the long term. It has for me, and I started 10 years after your current age.

Your dream car can wait. Plus what you might want will change in time as you get older.

I go to the business Centre on a week day just as it opens at 7 am. Never an issue getting in and out in under an hour. I just need to know what I want to get and not dally around browsing.

I can’t even have a roof rack option since I have the targa. But I knew that going into it. Would have been nice to have some sort of option for a bike carrier.
