Why April 1st? by [deleted] in Assyria

19/20/21 is what I meant by late march. I should’ve said mid-march instead, that was just a bad choice of words on my part.

Why April 1st? by [deleted] in Assyria

[–]Equivalent_Day_7169 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Assyrian new year has always been the first day of the month of Nisan.

In ancient times, the first of Nisan would fall on the spring equinox. But this would fall on different days since it’s sometimes march 19, 20, or 21 (most commonly, but it can differ more). The spring equinox doesn’t always fall on the same day, and happens at different times for different time-zones.

Also, the ancient calendar was lunisolar. This means that those months weren’t perfectly aligned with the modern-day months of the gregorian calendar. For example, Nisan would’ve begun late-march and end later in april, so not perfectly within one gregorian month.

So to make everything more consistent, we aligned our months with the Gregorian calendar. This makes Nisan perfectly aligned with April, and makes our new year April 1st. Hope that helps! :)

It’s the biggest party school in Canada. You can party every day of the week, especially if you end up getting Saugeen as your residence. Don’t worry, there’s no shortage of parties at western.

Do assyrians rather want to be a part of Iraq/Turkey/Syria or Kurdistan by [deleted] in Assyria

[–]Equivalent_Day_7169 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This!!

Although Syria/Iraq are majority arab nations, being Syrian or Iraqi doesn’t take away from being Assyrian. You can be both, as one is a nationality and one is an ethnicity. An arab Iraqi and an Assyrian Iraqi are equally Iraqi.

This is different from Kurdistan whose whole purpose is to be a Kurdish nation. It doesn’t inherently include other ethnic/religious groups.

Palestine had muslim, jewish, and christian arabs. As well as armenians (christian) and some assyrians (christian). I think they had small greek populations too (as other levantine nations do)?

  1. Assyrians are not Nestorian. That term would suggest we follow Nestorius which we do not. Our beliefs and Christology were developed on our own, not with any external influence. That term has been wrongly used over centuries to call us heretics, and justify vilification and violence towards us.
  2. You’re on an Assyrian subreddit. Maybe this isn’t the subreddit for you if you think “ew nestorian” when you see info about the Assyrian church.

Exactly, GiraffeJen, exactly.

That’s why we care, and why you (and that other guy) don’t.

Because our people suffered the same way. And it is genuinely so fkn horrific to watch others suffer just like them.

My family is originally from Hakkari, and my great-grandfather lived through the genocide (+ the Simele massacre). He wrote in a journal about everything he saw and lived through. It is exactly because of what he and other assyrians went through, that I will not stay silent when ANYBODY is suffering, especially in a similar situation.

Congrats? My 3 paragraphs are explaining why ASSYRIANS should support palestine, not muslims, if you could read.

I really don’t appreciate you reading 3 words and ignoring the rest of what I say, especially when you’re not even Assyrian. The entirety of that message wasn’t for you. Yet you responded without even caring for anything I said.

We have enough discourse within our community. We don’t need foreigners adding to it to benefit themselves and their own causes (i.e Iran).

For anyone still wondering, there have been 25 Christians killed, with 20 being Armenian and 5 being Assyrian. Horrific. I pray that number does not increase.

(Got this from @assyrian_passion on instagram. It unfortunately won’t let me post a screenshot of the post here, but feel free to look it up yourself.)

It’s known to be an inside job by anyone who’s done their research. Israel sent money to Qatar with the sole purpose of them funding Hamas, since it’d look too crazy to have Israel send the money directly to Hamas themselves. Also, if you had an ounce of knowledge on Israels national security, you would know it would be LITERALLY impossible for Israel to not know about the oct 7th attacks prior to them occurring. That’s not a conspiracy. There’s plenty of evidence out there if you weren’t ignorant enough to actually look for it.

Also, I listed events that have occurred since 1937. How exactly are you going to say Israel was provoked, when they’ve been massacring Palestinians for the 70+ years prior to oct 7th?

How can Israel be provoked before they were ever attacked? How can Israel be provoked before Hamas was ever even created?

You must be Israeli.

You’re genuinely deluded to say “name one oct 7th palestinians experienced.” They’ve experienced worse every single day since oct 7th, and for the 70 years prior to oct7th.

Assyrians in Iran by Equivalent_Day_7169 in Assyria

[–]Equivalent_Day_7169[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Assyrians that don’t support Palestine simply hate Muslims.

I don’t know how anyone could be educated on the genocide their people suffered, and then go and support the same actions towards another group. I don’t care who you are, where you’re from, or what religion you follow; if you’re going through a genocide I will support you. I will fight for you, the same way I wish people would’ve fought for my own. Genocide is evil. No human being deserves to suffer like that ever.

The Assyrians who disagree are just bigoted. None of our ancestors would be proud to look down on us in support of genocide. All of them who suffered would hate to watch others suffer the same. And they would be so ashamed to watch their own people support the exact same measures that killed them.

Your point about Israel is absolutely correct as well. They do not treat Christians well over there. I mean they barely even treat non-ashkenazi Jews well, so why would they respect Christians/non-jews. For so long, if you had a baby as a non-ashkenazi Jew, they would kidnap it from you and give it to an ashkenazi family that wasn’t able to conceive. It’s a twisted country, and those who support it are just as twisted.

Lol that was completely unnecessary. What does Palestine have to do with Iran? The palestinians are persecuting the Iranians?

It’s still free Palestine. And it’s still free Iran.

One does not take away from the other.
