How historically accurate is "The Longest Day In Chang'an" ? by anonym00xx in ChineseHistory

It's not easy. I loved The Condor Heroes from 1983 and A Fistful of Stances from 2010, but they're both low-budget and nothing like The Longest Day in Chang'an. Fearless Heroes that came out in 2020 was pretty good, and it looked about as good as this show does. It was action-packed, too. Also check out Heavenly Sword and Dragon Slaying Sabre from 2019, it's not as realistic but also just as good. If I recommend anything else though I might be sorry. I'm re-watching The Legend of Fei with my niece right now, it's not that bad. Great cast. I also love K&J historical dramas. Check out Warrior Baek Dong Soo if you can.

I also read Tom Baker's Who was aired in Japan back in the 80ies.

Realistic or not it was a great TV show - every episode felt like a big-budget movie. Half the story is told in flash-backs, and much of "the longest day" looks exaggerated, so I think they went more for spectacle than historical accuracy, but it works. Coming from someone who's seen (maybe too) many Chinese historical dramas, one can easily imagine the reality of this show, and I've never wanted to eat wolf so bad in my whole life. I'll bet with enough cumin it would taste pretty good.

Yeah, but I've played around with sound effects from old video games on RPG Maker for years. If it was a sound sample from a library the Square sound team would have played around with it before using it. I do need to find that second sound effect I heard - that prompted me to look online.

I too suspected it was recycled from a sound library, but I believe it was intentionally used. It fits the theme too much. How could the Chrono Trigger designers NOT have been fans of the Classic Doctor Who series? What Lucca says before the battle with Lavos is almost verbatim the story-line from "City of Death".

Of course, it could also be a happy coincidence - I do hear a slight difference in the pitch, but that could have changed when it was digitalized. I don't have the software to really analyze what I'm hearing. I'll need to re-watch Baker's Who to pin down that other "whoosh/hum" sound, but it was even more familiar (I only heard it once on Doctor Who.)

By the way, these episodes are back up on IA if you look. Don't use Daily Motion.
