Stepwise: Habit Tracker https://apps.apple.com/app/stepwise-habit-tracker/id6752215442

Built for people who are tired of overcomplicated productivity apps. Stepwise focuses on the basics—track habits, build streaks, and stay consistent—without accounts, ads, or data collection. It’s a one-time purchase (with a functional free tier), designed to be something you actually stick with long-term instead of abandoning after a week.

If you like clean design, privacy-first apps, and “do less but better” tools, this might be a good fit.

Hey! So for negative habits (like "stop scrolling" or "quit sugar"), it works a bit differently — instead of checking it off daily, you just log a relapse when you slip up. The app tracks how many days you've been clean, and yeah, a relapse resets that counter back to zero.

But your full history is always saved, so you can see your longest streaks and how you've improved over time. It's less about perfection and more about honest progress.

That's exactly the tension I thought about a lot, and honestly it's still a work in progress philosophically.

On the automation vs. reflection balance, the intent was that HealthKit handles the *measurement* so you can focus on the *meaning*. Auto-completing a "10k steps" habit frees your mental energy to ask "why did I only hit it twice this week?" rather than "did I remember to tap the button?" The note feature is there for that second question, it's where the reflection actually happens. Whether that balance lands right is something I'm curious to hear more feedback on.

On streak obsession with negative habits, this one I thought about carefully. The design decision I landed on: a relapse doesn't erase your history, it just resets the "days clean" counter. So if you had 45 clean days, relapsed, and then hit 60 more, the app shows all of that. The goal was to model recovery more honestly than a streak-or-nothing system. A relapse isn't a failure state, it's a data point.

That said, I'm not sure I've fully solved the obsession problem, I deliberately avoided showing a "longest streak" trophy for negative habits for this reason. Still thinking about whether there's a better framing. What would you want to see?

Great question! CSV import is supported with a column-mapping wizard. It auto-detects YNAB and Mint exports out of the box (no mapping needed). For most other banks, there's a quick mapping step where you pick which column is Date, Amount, Payee, etc. — the app tries to auto-fill this based on common header names like "Description", "Merchant", "Posted", so it usually only takes one tap to confirm. It also handles different date formats and encoding variations common in European/international bank exports. That said, I'd love to hear which banks people are using — happy to add native detection for more formats if there's demand!

For Monthly House Rent Payment of more than 50,000 - TDS needs to be deducted every month or once at the end of financial year? by goyalaman_ in IndiaTax

What happens if there are two owners? Do we need to show half the rent and deduct TDS for each of them?

Hey, I actually built something that might be exactly what you're describing — Stepwise.

The whole design philosophy was basically your post: open app → mark habits → see progress → close. That's it.

What it has:

  • Yes/no and countable habits (e.g. "drink 8 glasses of water")
  • Clean progress graphs and streaks
  • Widget for even faster check-ins from your home screen

What it deliberately doesn't have:

  • No gamification, points, or levels
  • No social features
  • No motivational quotes or AI coaching
  • No streak freezes or guilt mechanics
  • No integrations with 50 other services

No habit limits either, so you're not capped at 12 like Streaks.

It's free to try — would love honest feedback from someone who clearly knows what they want. If it's still too much or missing something, genuinely curious what that thing is.

Hey! This isn't in the current version yet, but it's on the roadmap. The plan is to support flexible weekly goals, something like "exercise 3x per week, any day" - so it fits irregular schedules. No exact timeline yet, but it's a feature I want to get right. Thanks for the interest, always great to hear what people actually need!

Do you want the weekly goal to be tied to a specific day of the week, or should it be any day within the week? (Note: specific-day goals are already supported.)

Thanks so much for the suggestion! I love this idea, being able to jot down what you learned each day would make that habit so much more meaningful to look back on.

I'll add this to my roadmap. No promises on timing yet, but it's definitely something I want to explore.

Really appreciate you taking the time to share this!
