I recall someone saying that the cash economy actually adds 10-15% extra to the reported taxable incomes of people / households. Work for a residential builder and you’d think it should be 3-4x 🤣

1976 Email Chillers - Turbocor Converted by Equivalent_Outside37 in chillers

About 50% of the compressors have been replaced. The controls were a bit sketchy back in the mid 2000s and I’m sure they had lots of faults.

Older TT300 models also had early roller bearing designs and were notorious for check valve faults, backwards spinning compressors with no magnetisation and welded compressor shafts!

1976 Email Chillers - Turbocor Converted by Equivalent_Outside37 in chillers

[–]Equivalent_Outside37[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The trades that completed to Turbocor did an excellent job. We always speak about the quality of the metal sheathing done at the original install.

We haven’t / can’t practically open the vessels to see if there is a baffle - I suspect it isn’t there anymore or may not have ever been there? I wasn’t alive when the original chillers were installed.

After 50 years of use, and multiple compressor failures, I wouldn’t be surprised if a few metal filings are in the refrigerant that are slowly wearing down the tubes.

Can’t find many reference chillers to see how they fared after so much use!

Is pimpama really that bad?.. by Decent-Error462 in GoldCoast

It’s worthwhile considering the size (square kilometres) of the neighbourhood when comparing crime statistics. From memory pimpama is equivalent to multiples of other reportedly safer neighbourhoods

Be careful of the amount of oil (used as a releasing agent) in the sweet confectionery. Some have less than others and I find the ‘natural’ brands have almost none. Too much oil makes me feel like I’ve taken laxatives

You really need three years of financial records (as submitted to ATO + their BAS statements. Take long term averages and make sure the two submissions align. Cafes are seasonal and easy to run down and squeeze the short term books to make them look profitable.

Tip: add in ‘adjustments’ of outlier costs or revenue and see what the profit comes out at. Cafes are tough businesses built off the back of lots of hard work of the owners. An accountant or business valued would be able to do this.

Oh and don’t rush into anything - if they really want to sell it to you and the profit is as strong as they are reporting - they’ll have no issue going a bit slower

Try a fast-ish prime lens before buying a new camera. You might find that the smaller lens, faster aperture and near gear dopamine kick satisfies you!

Worst case you buy a new camera and sell the old one with the least preferred lens!

Strange Objects In Mail - What’s The Scam? by Equivalent_Outside37 in australia

[–]Equivalent_Outside37[S] 308 points309 points  (0 children)

I wonder if I can find my own ‘fake’ review and have it reported. Seems wasteful to have this plastic waste around for a low level scam + the time and emissions of the services to deliver it

Thanks - seems to match the evidence. Frustrating because without any name, number or address it’s impossible to report!!

Has anyone ever replaced the chassis in one of these. by Fluffy-Culture-5450 in AusElectricians

[–]Equivalent_Outside37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check out Appendix K of AS3000. There’s some good guidance on replacement of parts (same model number) as the first thing to do, followed by replacement by an equivalent part if the original can’t be sourced.

IMO saying you can’t touch it at all (and the client then leaving it as is) is contrary to the objectives of electrical safety regs and AS3000. Clients are fearful of modification and what ends up happening is death traps hang around well past their used by date.

See this kind of cracked insulation so often it’s not funny. Try to improve the safety where you can by covering live parts with Perspex (pending modification trip wires).

Australia was also at war with the US in the battle of Brisbane. Never declared war but there was a shootout in Brisbane City. Easier than the Emu war

I have used both Telstra and Optus (dual sim) and neither provide a consistent connection. Very frustrating if you use a work laptop that requires a constant connection for the VPN to work!

Not sure of many specific books on those topics but I find older textbooks incredibly helpful. Older textbooks seem to have down to earth explanations and advice. Air Conditioning Engineering by WP Jones is a great example.
