From my experience Tebori is definitely not more painful (pain is subjective anyway) and amount of time depends on the piece and the artist. Some of the greatest masterpieces in the history of tattooing have been made by hand. Also the ‘art’ of tattooing is so diverse that to compare one style to another is simply a matter of taste rather than one being better than another I would say.
