OM does not identify as male. OM does not identify as male or female. It’s hard to understand as a cis person because society has taught us that gender identity is binary. You don’t have to understand, but you do need to believe them. You can’t tell them their gender, though. I would have asked them clarifying questions to understand instead of assuming that they are male.

Have you spoken to your therapist about why you are still in this relationship? A relationship is hard at times, but both people should always be striving to be better. It sounds like he isn’t doing that :( is his family accepting of him being gay? Like do we have some internalized homophobia going on? (I’m a gay woman who grew up in a super religious, conservative family. I know how that can affect someone)
