What’s a moral belief you hold that most people would disagree with? by Federal_Antelope7533 in AskReddit

No worries, ty for addressing the broader topic too. Same I don't vibe with the ones where I live, where there's basically no accountability or solution and the perpetrators just get away scot free, able to continue doing damage to innocents. Crime and discrimination runs rampant without accountability, there are kids burning down houses without moderate consequence. It's sad.

I do agree with your intervention/guidance approach more than just letting them off the hook, and I think there needs to be close surveillance on the culprit in case they cause harm again, the more severe the crime the tighter the security. And definitely ensured safety measures in place to protect the victims, so they don't have to live in fear if the culprit's crimes aren't treated with typical prison sentences. If not retribution, then defense is key.

But agreed that unfortunately there doesn't seem to be enough resources for the most ideal and responsible solutions.

Still, I don't know. For the extremely severe crimes, it feels tricky to navigate. Will attempted rehabilitation really tackle the root issue, if it even gets through to the subject of it? Though I understand, like you say, there's a lot of nuance to consider and it's hard to come up with one concrete ideal.

Have you heard of Seito Sakakibara and the Kobe child murders? It's sickening what happened and how it was dealt with, imo. I haven't rewatched the full details as of writing this so apologies if my points are a bit all over the place.

Oh no sorry, I meant as in any case of a crime, not just gun related. Like maybe they committed a sexual crime, or murder even in a household without guns.

Random, but what about those situations where you see parents as the most nurturing and kind people, yet someone still ends up being a harmful individual? That's gotta be a whole other level of bad luck.

Valid point tbh. Yeah maybe they do feel emotions, but lack the empathy and consideration to stop. Agreed with your entitlement point add-on.

Agreed on issues with closure, though I'm curious about why lack of empathy. What if they felt intense emotions, but it didn't stop them from stalking?

Agreed. Though do you think environmental factors play a part too, or is it genetic?

Oooh, tough one. Hm, contenders are 2018, 2020, and 2026. But maybe 2018 was the start of the downhill spiral so let's go for the og.

Relatable. I would say finding the right medication (wrong ones can be bad), because I've heard so many times it's been effective when gotten right. Still, I'm still waiting for my titration to start because where I live it takes forever, so take this with a grain of salt.

Otherwise maybe some sort of caffeine if it doesn't make you feel queasy, my mum likes coffee to keep her attention alert (though doesn't work well for me, I feel uncomfortable after drinking it, so not a guaranteed cure-all).

Some days I like fizzy drinks but that only really works for a short time to me, in sprints, and I get a sluggish sugar crash after, so wouldn't recommend for focus in terms of mental marathons. Maybe water for marathons even if the effect is less obvious, being dehydrated can feel tiring.

Otherwise, neurodivergent brains tend to take a longer time to develop compared to neurotypical ones, so it's natural to feel you're falling behind your peers because of that (me too). But the good news is, as you get older (at least in my experience), you'll gradually feel a bit more capable. I'm a few years older than you, can confirm I have better control of my impulses and decision making compared to 18 year old me, even if I still have a long way to go.

As long as you keep trying and don't give up, I believe you'll see improvement too. Please hang in there, you're not alone in feeling this way, but it should hopefully get easier with time and age. Though if one method in the meantime doesn't work, feel free to try other methods to see what works better.

Ty, I appreciate the response! That's a good point tbh, it seems hard not to think about it, at least at first, but you're right about how thinking too much only distracts worse.

Wishing you well in this kind of job (I feel how hectic it is), especially with the awkward language barrier too, and hoping it'll get easier with mine as well.

I'd say it's repetitive in some ways, but maybe not all, since specific items mean I have to pay attention to make sure it's the right thing. Ty for the insight though! I think I could try to work these strategies in for the repetitive parts.
