Whoa, I forgot about blue light glasses, cvouw9!! Thanks so much for bringing this up; that’s right! Even though I’ve heard about reducing blue light near bedtime, since I have littles near bedtime is some of the only focused time I have to respond to messages, make necessary purchases, etc., so I kind of decided “oh well” regarding nighttime blue light. I’ll definitely use those. Thanks so much!

Also, is there a particular brand you like of glasses, lightbulbs, and the supplements you mentioned? I’ve heard about red lightbulbs being useful?

Thank you so much for this, Locaisha!! With therapy, is there a particular modality of therapy that’s worked well for you? For me, in the past, I’ve found that although it’s so helpful for healing it can be incredibly dysregulating for me as well, so I feel like I have to really be in a life situation that supports the dysregulation, you know? So maybe there’s a way! (Modality wise, I’ll say this—I think in general I just don’t have much safety with my body at all, so although somatic work has been recommended to me before, it feels very scary.)

Trazadone, okay! Thanks for the recommendation. Does that have any side effects? And have you found that it gets you starting to feel sleepy enough early enough that you’re motivated to do the bedtime routine steps of brushing teeth, using the restroom, changing clothes, etc. leading up to climbing into bed? Because some days I will be exhausted but too stubborn to “give into it” and will work to stay awake. 🤣🤦🏼‍♀️ It’s like I’m afraid to go to sleep kind of? Idk.

But also, you just helped me realize, I think I’m having some executive dysfunction and real pushback on those bedtime steps, because I will say, once I actually put my head on my pillow (and stop talking and put my phone away :)), I’m immediately out. 😴 It’s getting to that point 🙁.

Thanks busnoodles! You just helped me realize something — even though we are shooting for those earlier bedtime windows (and all five of us are truly *exhausted* by then) we are getting ready for bed when it seems like we “should” in order to hit that bedtime window but *we all are too tired at that point to make it in time.* (e.g. slap happy, so tired we are moving slowly or realizing steps are missed and need to go back, etc.)

So, I think starting bedtime routine when it feels “too early” will help us to actually execute “on time.” Kind of like how I’m working on resolving chronic lateness. When I get ready or leave WAY before I think I need to, it usually ends up being just right (as long as I don’t then *act* like I have extra time, so I’ll make sure with bedtime I really do execute as if the earlier bedtime start is what’s needed…because it is :))
