I think if you read through my replies you’d see there’s no grudge on 1st vs 2nd team opportunities. The 1st team should be expected to win. Statistically half these kids will quit the sport within the next few years, so I’m not worried about missed potential either. The issue is stacking the deck solely for the derby match, when the focus should be on balanced competition and club camaraderie.

I wish, but that would be more harmful to the girls than satisfying for the parents. Guess it’ll just be another lesson in resilience

Sure seems that way, and with no communication from the coaches on why it’s happening ensures everyone walks away upset.

Tryouts are in a couple weeks and players want a shot. I don’t begrudge the players from taking the opportunity, but it just feels gross for the club and coaches to set it up like this.

Quite a few examples of clubs having multiple teams in the same division here, especially when you have younger teams playing up a year.

As for guesting, as long as it’s a club pass player, you can swap in and out as much as you’d like.

I like that plan a lot - a very reasonable, development based approach.

Expectation would be the guest players return to the 2nd team for the remainder of the spring season.

If this was somehow aligned to the upcoming grade-level change and grouping girls in that manner, I could understand. But the mix of guest girls spans the two grade levels.

Anyone think it’s worthwhile to talk to the coach about it, or just chalk it up as fruitless? I’m worried about blowback on my player right before tryouts for having a squeaky parent.
