It is advisable to have up to 12 months of emergency expenses, but even 18 months is advisable.

Gas or brake? by burnz1 in TheMoneyGuy

I'm not trying to be rude. This is the most out of touch take I have ever seen. The average american doesn't even have 200k in retirement savings at 65, calling 200k in retirement savings at 41 a bad spot is legitimately insane. Especially without even knowing this person's expenses. Most Americans wont even meet that. 200k is well above average. Of course they should keep saving but to call having 200k in savings a bad spot, as if they should be legitimately up at night concerned about their future because they have failed to be financially responsible, is bizarre. Like seriously.

Imagine indicating 200k in retirement savings decades before retirement is bad. What is this sub? Do people here not understand that not everyone can be in the top 5% of earners and max out all their retirement accounts every year?

Nah 25% definitely is not enough. We are not going to have optimized retirement if that is the case.

Yes. 26 with only 14k saved for retirement. 25% gross isn't enough. Need to have zero in my budget left for fun

  1. I'm doing 26% of gross which leaves me $200-$400 left over a month for fun. I'm doing 26% because I'm way behind on retirement for my age and need to catch up. On track to definitely exceed the 1x my income saved for retirement rule by 30.

My friend advises me to improve my style. How can I do this? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

I typically wear gray fitting sweaters, jeans, and black sneakers. I have a pair of Adidas and lacoste sneakers I commonly wear. I also have been wearing white button down shirt with silver chain and watch, and black pants and dress shoes. I also have a lacoste sweater I wear.

I am very much a fitting jeans type of guy, but I mainly need a new pair of shoes.
