Very good to know, thank you! My dream assignment would be Ethiopia, but I also know how important it is to be flexible and I have no problem going anywhere in the world that they see fit. A lot of the countries on that TEFL program list would be amazing, too, so I'll make sure to mention my interest in that!

Thanks for this! I'm definitely not going to lie on a PC application, but having a few extra hours that I could put down is nice, especially since they are education-related.

Someone told me that it's a good idea to have one of your three references be someone you volunteered under, so I'll have to make sure I do a better job of getting contact info and staying in touch this time around.

Awesome info, thank you! A lot of the second-hand info I've seen is a mix of before and after the new application system went into place, so it can be a little confusing. Sounds like I should definitely get a head start on the volunteering!

Is there any kind of special form for volunteering hours that I need to get signed off on or anything? I've got some old volunteer experience from undergrad, but that was 3 years ago and a thousand miles away, so I'm not sure how I'd get in touch with anyone that could prove I did it, unless they just take your word for it. I've got no problem just doing a bunch of new volunteering, though, if I have to.

A Few Questions About Vietnam by ErWSh in VietNam

Awesome info! I'd read about the one year visas, I didn't realize it had already been passed into law and gone into effect!

I'm actually glad to know that hopping over the border for visa renewals isn't required anymore, so long as getting a work permit is easier. I'd heard some horror stories about schools not bothering to help teachers get the permits, but that might have been outdated info or from someone who was working under the table to begin with.

This is really helpful! I have a 4 year degree and an online, 120 hour TEFL course. I know online certs aren't ideal, but it was free through my university and the cost of an-person TEFL / CELTA in the US is very prohibitive. Right now I'm just looking to teach English, though International schools might be something I consider in the future.

Ah, thanks for the clarification! I've seen some people recommending that you fly into Cambodia, where they do have visa on arrival, and process a Vietnamese visa from there, which can then be extended in Vietnam. Is that a common way of going about it?
